You say that, but I've been watching old Buzzcocks on Dave recently. Certainly better with Lamarr than with Amstell.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but that was my point, that Shooting Stars was only good during the Lamarr era, and that shows seem to want to struggle on with new format/new writers.

Doesn't help that Simon Amstell is as funny as a splinter in the bonch, and slightly more wooden.

I'd rather watch him than the fluffy haired prick russel brand.

I'd rather have a balls mauled by a tiger than a bear, but it doesn't mean I'd choose to do either.

A bear would be more likely to leave you alive. Mauled and castrated, but still alive. Probably.

I think Lamar was better as he had a genuine passion for music, whereas Amstell has a genuine passion for trolling people (I don't mind him personally, I just prefer ML).

Legend of the Seeker

Not new as such (it was on in 2008), but I started watching this when I found out a couple of the hot girlies from Spartacus: Blood and Sand were in it.

It's the standard sword and sorcery fare based on the books by Terry Goodkind (never read his stuff myself, but I recognise his name). I've only watched 5 episodes so far, but god damn is it irritating.

It's run of the mill, hackneyed and cliched fantasy stuff. Every ten minutes one of the characters (usually the main one) does something utterly retarded, presumably in an effort to crank up the tension, that makes you want to smash their face in. Examples:

- opening episode, main character is told of his destiny and the story is backed up by several displays of magic and his father telling him to trust the crazy old wizard that lives in the woods (Obi Wan?). Cue "no I don't believe it, it can't be true!" bollocks that ensues for half an hour and almost gets several people killed

- main character being told to be quiet in case some weird winged beasty hears them and eats them. Cue main character thrashing all over the place going "woah I don't believe it!"

- main character ignoring the fact they are grossly outnumbered, ignoring the advice of everyone around him, and running off to do some bullshit, pointless quest that serves no purpose other than to put him in danger

Many, many thing irritate me about this. The wizard character is called Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander for Christ's sake. The main character (whose name I can't remember) becomes superbly proficient with a sword merely seconds after going through his "I'm not the one you're looking for, I don't believe any of this!". Seemingly because of this they have a sword fight every 5 minutes. I don't know why.

Bullshit all of it.

Yet I'll probably still watch a few more episodes.

The books are okay, nowt special though. Although they are (as ever) likely better than the TV adaptation given your review.

Just got around to watching Southland (it's showing on one of Channel 4's satellite channels) and was impressed. I remember Deej mentioning it and took a punt. OC boy can't act but the rest is pretty damn good.

Well worth a sweep, in my book.

Yes. Buscemi is awesome plus I spotted Omar in there. It looks like this is coming to Sky so I'll have to sweep it. Fuck you Murdoch.
