Dunkirk - with Grandad Fabbles

Post by fabyak »

:excited: Woooo! Just discovered that the BBC have rebroadcast the interviews the did with the veterens when producing the Dunkirk docu-drama thing. This is especially exciting as Grandad Fabbles is in there and sadly we don't have a copy of it but now we can do! :). It's the accounts of several soldiers and how they got back to Dunkirk, it's very interesting viewing

Thought it would be interesting for Mr Pants and Amblin to see the man they read about and the rest of you go and buy the book! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dunkirk-Diary-ver ... 3f0045ea48 and read about the man you just saw

If someone has beaten you to it (I think my dad has only put them on one at a time) let me know and I'll give him a prod)

The book's quite an interesting read, partly because it's written by someone with whom you have a vague connection, and partly because more than probably any similar book I've read it was written from the point of view of a soldier with very little military outlook. It's quite refreshing to get an almost civilian point of view, as is imagining his slow transformation into a soldier from the subtle changes in how he describes events.
