Terry Pratchett's Going Postal

This was shown over the bank holiday weekend just gone and being the third large scale adaptation they've got to be popular, if not masterpieces. As with the other two, this one has impressive sets and costumes, for a TV show. As well as interesting characters played by some more impressive actors.

I quite enjoyed it. Although I found the first half got a bit boring in places and there was a glaring plot hole or two. The second half seemed better. With the plot and all the characters set-up in the first half it could get on with the business of telling a story. Which was perfectly acceptable escapist fantasy.

I don't know how well it was adapted as I've not read the book. But perhaps there's more to glean from this if you are more familiar with the source. I noticed The City Watch in the background of a couple of scenes.

I need to watch this, but I think they missed a bit by not getting Jeremy Irons to be Vetinari again.

Even ginger vetinari smiled, not good enough. But he's still better than that cleft palated thespian irons.

Pratchett himself has said that, when writing Vetinari, he sort of modelled him on Jeff Jones, so actually the hair colour is sort of added on afterwards anyway. :)

I didn't *hate* Irons as Vetinari, but Charles Dance is closer to how I imagine him.

Vetinari smiles occasionally, just not at things most people find funny.

Well that is true, I've just always viewed it as the smile you'll see on a psychotic entemologist when they get a particularly fine creature in their jar.
