5punky Browser Games

Post by friznit »

It's been a while since we had a laugh playing a multiplayer browser game of any kind: UD, Shartak, Alterian and to some extent that buildy one with duplo bricks all had a good run and after seeing some vague interest in the thread about Neptune's Pride I thought it might be an idea to have a Browser Games mini-review / discussion / suggestion thread thing jobby wotsit.

So, herein be our suggestions for 5punky Browser Games that we either have played, still play or think might be worth playing together. Usual criteria apply:

Must be free
Must be able to get all 5punkers together in same server/planet/village pub
Ability to insert CDC's into game a bonus

To start things off:

I've recently had a go at Evony, which is sort of a castle / village building and management strategy sim. The idea is to build up a big army and go invade your neighbours much in the same vein as Altarian but not in space. Sadly it was full of retards who took it way to seriously (at least, my server was) and after finally building my town up pretty strong I got bored and quit. Mildly amusing, but probably not enough room for 5punky behaviour to have a lasting appeal.

I am still rather puzzled as to why Kingdom of Loathing never really caught on with 5punkers, considering its general silliness.

Too big and difficult to get into, I reckon.

Most of the browser games we've played have been pretty new, so we can have a good effect on the world.

No mention of Minecraft? For shame.

Au contraire my friend, minecraft is a 5punk favourite, but I'm too lazy to go looking for the threads.
We love it though.

I'm not too lazy, I love the Minecrack.

I don't think of it as a browser game, despite it clearly being one. It won't be forever though once Notch has code he's happy enough with as a standalone. Apparently.

Hopefully. Notch's been quiet for nearly a week now. Most unlike him.

Good stuff. His blog would indicate this is going to be quite a lengthy tasks and that's why the updates slowed down. I can live with that - multiplayer indev (which will probably be infdev by that point) will give it a huge new lease of life.

I'm thinking way too much about this, as I'm already imagining each 5punker doing specific tasks, so we get soldiers, lumberjacks, blacksmiths, builders etc.
In reality it'll be quite the opposite though.

And then one of us will go insane and beat everyone up with a baby, before being killed by the militia. Oh, wait, wrong game...
