For games played by men (and women) with beards, such as tabletop RPGs.

SR payment

Post by Joose »

How much to pay for runs has always been a bit of a sticking point for me. I'm never entirely sure if I've given enough or too much.

Thankfully, ive just stumbled on something on the dumpshock forums that is rather handy:

http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?showtopic=30816

For those of you who don't know, AH is a freelance writer who has done a shitload of work on SR in the past, and really knows his stuff. This post is one of the things he likes doing every now and then: sharing with the fans stuff he's made that didn't make it into books for one reason or another. The bit I'm interested in here is near the bottom, titled "The Going Rate". Its bloody handy, and is what I'm going to be basing my payments on in the future.

I'm sharing it with you guys for two reasons:

1) Your characters would know what the average going rate for their services is, and the usual amounts that Mr J's will budge by in negotiations, so it makes sense that you get to look at this stuff. If you don't know it, how is your character supposed to?

2) I'm only using it as a guide, not hard and fast rules. Just because the minimum going rate for an assassination is usually about 5k each doesn't mean that's what you are always going to be offered. Just because the Mr J usually comes in at 85% of what he expects to pay you doesn't mean that they are all going to be like that.

Enjoy!

For TLDR and reference:

Code: Select all

BASELINE SHADOWRUN PAYMENT TABLE
Assassination 5,000¥
Bodyguard/Security Duty 200¥ per day
Burglary 2,000¥
Courier Run 1,000¥
Datasteal 20% value of data
Distraction 1,000¥
Destruction 5,000¥
Enforcement 1,000¥
Encryption/Decryption 200¥ x Encryption Rating
Extraction 20,000¥
Hacking 1,000¥ x Firewall
Investigation 200¥ per day
Smuggling Run 5,000¥
I'd always err on the side of caution personally. Makes players hungry for reward and therefore keen to play the next run. Unfortunately Al already has assloads of cash and nothing to spend it on, but then my motivation for him is his contact network and skills. Kit doesn't really help a lot.

Spend it in down time on cultivating sources maybe? Better equipment? Bioware that'll help him like tailored pheromones and bio pumps so you can think faster, con harder and roll more dice?

I'd recommend form fitting body armour too, but Al might be too weak to wear it all.

I do spend it on cultivating contacts, after every run. As I said, I can't really see any equipment that's of use. Something armoured would be nice if I can wear it, but I've an armoured coat and suit so I'm not completely dick-in-the-wind. Bioware might be worth looking into.

Theres loads, but admittedly a lot of it probably isnt obvious. I'll put a list of possible things you might be interested in together.

In fact, one of the bits of equipment listed is something im going to follow pretty much the entire SR community in house ruling out of existence: The emotitoy. So broken. So horribly broken.
