Screen turns off

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Screen turns off

Post by FatherJack »

Every time I boot up from cold, after Windows starts and a few seconds have elapsed, both screens go blank and say 'no signal'. If I press the reset button, the PC then boots up fine and stays that way.

I'm using 196.21 nvidia drivers, which are the latest Windows 7 pushes out (managed to trash it completely with some earlier drivers from nvidia, so have stuck to the Windows-provided ones since then). Card is <60°C idle, never more than 80°C loaded.

Nothing in the event logs at all.

What happens if you boot in VGA or safe mode from the F8 menu on boot?

I'm thinking it's a driver fuckup, that'll be the easiest indicator.

If it doesn't bugger up in safe mode, attack with driver cleaner type stuff and try proper nvidia drivers (worth poking about the hardocp forums to see what's preferred and most stable), rather than windows supplied ones

Well the Windows ones are provided by nVidia, but out of date compared to theirs.

Indeed, but I figure you're probably better off getting drivers from the sauce, rather than through a 3rd party.
