Hello one and all, I think I need a holiday.

Have been pondering various destinations, various accommodation, lengths of trips, sights to see and friends to meet - and I've come to the conclusion that what I'd really like to do is go off somewhere with a travel buddy. Therefore I extend my hand to yourselves! Zomg!

Who wants to go on travels for me, whether it be a weekend in New Yoik or a week in deepest, darkest Yurop?

Are there any destinations you've visited that you can recommend?

I'd love to. A weekend in a city is my sort of holiday, and I've always wanted to go to places like New York, Stockholm or Munich. Unfortunately between the family and my work situation it's not going to happen for me

I haven't had a proper holiday since July last year, and haven't had a leaving-the-country holiday since the year before that, and then only for a week and a bit.
Just getting tiiiired now, I need to go somewhere, anywhere!

You're always welcome in my house if you're on a budget, but that's neither far nor very interesting.
If you can afford it, I'd recommend Scandinavia, it has good, clean mountain -and sea air, the tap has spring water and the women are attractive. I've only ever visited Finland but according to my sister Sweden is better, and Norway a natural marvel (but really, really expensive)
If you prefer city trips I can't really help you all that much, I'm not much of a city person myself, and have even passed up on two occasions to visit Paris, although from the stories that I heard it's not what all the 'merkins make it out to be.
The only big city I recently visited was Boston, which was sort of like a mini version of NYC, but without all the glamour.

Well, there is a guest room (which consist of a fold out couch, a wardrobe and a radio) But I have two separate beds in my room which are 2.20 m, so suitable for long people.
As for Belgium itself, It's not the most entertaining country, but it's very small so you can visit everything relatively cheap by train.
Should you want to change scenery, there are trains leaving from Brussels that you can take to pretty much anywhere in Europe. (there is even one that goes to Moscow)

I haven't been off this island in about 6+ years and my last holiday was a week in the lakes a couple of years ago. I may splurge on a holiday to somewhere like cuba though.

Wandering the Forrins is a great holiday- it's what I've done for the last three years with an old friend. Europe-wide Rail Passes are half price until you're 25, I think.
The Czech Republic is very pretty indeed and the language is fun to try out. I'd offer to go but there's clearly some who need to leave the island more than I do

Don't go with Pete though- we're waiting for him to leave so we can close the doors.

For me the big thing is not feeling like a tourist. I hate it, having local people rely on tourism, because I always have to assume any friendliness is there to seperate me with my money. Similarly, all the shops and bars are tacky and designed just to get your money from you. Nothing of it really represents the country or people. And I especially hate people hassling me to sell me stuff, it utterly ruins my enjoyment. So much so that when I went on honeymoon I only went into town once. Hence my preference for city breaks.

I heartily recommend Amsterdam as a destination.
Ignoring the obvious, its a lovely place to visit: nice people, friendly feel to the place, plenty of interesting things to see/do. Me and the Mrs went, both of us think its our favourite European city, and between the two of us we have covered a vast amount of them. Indeed, its the only foreign major city that I've ever thought "I could quite happily live here". We had no interest in the drugs side of things, and only went to the red light district so we could have a gawp (I recommend going for a look, its bloody weird), so don't think it matches up to the stereotype at all. Its also got a good zoo, which is always a plus for me. Also, its not that expensive (protip: buy some food at a supermarket, make yourself sandwiches every day. Eating in a cafe every lunch will hurt your wallet in anywhere remotely touristy unless you have Local Knowledge. That's not just Amsterdam though) and its not that far to travel either.

I was actually thinking about making a road trip out to New York after the semester is over with. Maybe we could all meet up there or something. I have never been there myself, so I'd also be a unwashed tourist bastard there.

5punk trip to NewYorkz!

I've not been to yankland for years, since i was a liddle kiddler. Would be fun to go again and see it from an adult(ish) perspective
