downloaded today, i have two character, one called shot2bits and one called snaggletooth bob, if all goes well after the 14 days trial then i shall be joining for good

You need to get yourself to Frulegar IV (I forget which moon) and put an application in (Click corp tab and find 5punkorp, then click apply to join). Then wait and keep an eye on your emails, and one of the directors should accept before long. If they don't give them a poke. It explains better in the faq elsewhere in the Eve forum.

Can we update this thread if anyone knows any others? - even if they don't post here, perhaps some of the "X..." people. I feel a bit embarrassed asking "Who the fuck are you?" ingame when I've only been there like about 5 minutes in comparison.

Yak already showed me the correct channel for coms and helped me out with some ISK so I got me a Tristan

(Ta, Yak). just training up the Frigate skill so I can do more than stand there polishing it. Should be right by tonight / tomorrow.

Someone told me that if you log out while in space, your ship just hangs there. I suppose this would be a bad thing, yes?

If you log out in space, your ship warps to a random position (I think) but it still takes the normal time it would take to get to warp and can still be affected by jamming (but if you're in clear space then you can do it and your ship will be there when you get back) and you will warp back to the location you were in when you logged out.
