Probably be in public beta before it's downloaded, though.

There's a lot of stuff going on this week so the service may be struggling a bit. But it's a big download whatever.

Im beginning to wonder what will happen first:
a) I will download the beta
b) The game will be released
c) Warp drives will be invented and I can go do all this for real.

Before this week the servers have only been available for a few hours and couple of times a week. Chill.

Haven't been able to play yet, and now there's another big patch, but at least the servers are supposed to be up all weekend.

So far the whole game has an odd little niggling feeling that it's effectively chimps in drag.

I liked it at first, but then a 50-minute series of space battles bored me utterly.

Apparently this
has been replicated perfectly as an emote in the game.

It has indeed.
Having played a fair bit over the weekend, I have come to the following conclusion:
Its not bad, but...
If you just want a good MMO, WoW is better.
If you want an MMO in space, EVE is better.
If you want a good MMO, and have a WoW aversion, CO is better.
I can only really recommend this to real Star Trek geeks who don't already play one of the above games. Everyone else will likely go "meh" and play something else.

There's a "Khaaaaaan!" emote as well.

There's a big article on it in PCG, which says the space bit is great, but the ground bit is a bit lacklustre, and that they can't see it improving with the finished product, and that it's unavoidable. It's a shame really, because I'd have given Warcraft in Space a go, as much as I dislike games trying to imitate the formula.

Aye, I've read that article, their main gripe is that currently the ground missions really are just "beam down, kill some klingons, beam back" and it needs more variation in the missions, some science or engineering ones would be good.
At the moment they're just breaks from the good space bit.

I don't really get why they like the space bits so much. Seems to me to be "Warp in, kill klingons, warp out", only with the added confusion of trying to move in 3d.

Why they always picking on the Klingons?
I keep playing MMOs. Am not sure why. Am pretty sure I hate them.
