Yes, this. We had it working at uni.
Unfortunately, I was a bit below average skill wise, and the people I was playing against were like the guys from Pure Pwnage, so I didnt enjoy it overly.

As in one of them played UT till his w and a key actually fell off. As far as RA2 goes, they knew just through playing, the *exact* strenghts and weakness's of the units. They knew exactly how long it would take unit x to destroy unit y, and whether unit z was worth the price difference compared to unit w. They new more about the statistics of the units in RA2 than I know about the statistics of ships in EVE.
They were at the level where they could provide reasonable competition against "pro" gamers.
