Just found my golem. Very funny conversation. It reminds me of Berk.

Also, talking tactics in general I was really struggling fighting in built up areas, till I worked out that the best course was to run and hide in a corner, make the buggers come to you. If you try to take them head on it just instant death rape.

Thought you would have known that tictac from all your magical faaabulous fairy land! :P

The need for the meat to run in on occasion and get surrounded and backstabbed is terribly annoying, but I've got them on high aggro and high armour, so they take and age to kill, morrigan is ice and lightning now, she smashes stuff to bits.

I may roll a squishie and run both of them on offense, I figure it won't need much healing when everything is dead super fast.

Think I'm doing something wrong now. I've been trying various different party combinations and had fairly good success with me (dwarf meatshield), Alistair or Sten doing 2H swingy sticks, Morrigan blasting shit and running out of mana and the old woman healing/buffing. Downside was noone to pick all the locks and despite training her up for archery, Bard girl is a bit shit.

So I ended up embarking on the Urn quest with me, Sten and Alistair all wearing heavy plate and wielding big fuckoff swords, and Bard woman. I happily ganked my way through it until I get to a certain point
Spoiler:
where you fight yourself
. And I'm utterly unable to get beyond it. Think I might have to go all the way back out and change to my old party combo :(

I doubt it would work;
Spoiler:
When I fought my mirrors they had different abilities from me. Which worked out nicely actualy because my healer was casting offensive spells and my bard was using her bow (I've trained her for backstabbing and dual weapons). I trashed them in no time, taking out Lelaini, then Al, then Wynne.

Sounds like you need a healer - if nothing else set the tactics of your party to use health poultices. I had my usual AoEs up so kind of missed what was going on, my healer doing the usual stopping me from killing everyone duty. Fortunately
Spoiler:
my double
only used the weaker spells at its disposal.

I've since gotten all the mage specs and am now the
Spoiler:
battlemage in full armour I always wanted to be
- damn glad I did the Urn quest before getting that.

That would be just sucky if we needed to hold onto them from lvl 1 and then need them at LVL 20 !
Spoiler:
The only use for gems I have found is a quest from the barman in Dereniniminenin. You need 10 garnets. I think this is probably rogue only as it's a "shady" quest line.

Ooohh Battle Mage you say FJ? Do tell... in fact, going to make new threat for character builds and party types, since this is one is more about general tictacs.

Each class has four specializations which once unlocked are then persistent through all your games. Most are buyable or learnable from your companions or NPCs, but a few are from quests. Blood Mage and Reaver are gained from
Spoiler:
(re)doing the Redcliffe Castle quest and dealing with the demon
- I created new characters just to unlock these.

The "battlemage" is the mage specialisation of Arcane Warrior, which you unlock
Spoiler:
in a room in the ruins in the forest quest chain. There's a room with a broken altar and a phylactery.
The class enables you to use swords and equip any armour (using your magic as a substitute for strength). Of course you take a fatigue hit, but unlike you'd expect with regular DnD rules I haven't had a spell fail yet.

Morrigan did not like it at all when I dumped her ass for Leliana. She's still at +59 favor (Warm) though.

I don't really get the whole friendship thing though, I gave gifts and ended conversation positive (most of the time, the big guy hates everything I do) but how do I know where I stand with my characters?
