Spec me an upgrade, minions!

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

I was considering suggesting those (again) but I wasn't sure if they still counted as good. :P

Maybe. If you do get it from there though this asus one is £10 cheaper and has an extra year of warranty: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... ubcat=1502

But but.. How does "In stock" turn to "Pre order"?
Surely it should be "Out of stock"?

Pre order usually = Some expected in the next week or so, also sounds better than out of stock

And if you do put one in your basket and buy it you'll get first dibs when more arrive. I think it's more of a this is how we show supply isn't meeting demand, that's how good these are, buy one. Or buy two, two is faster than one.

I'll be listening with interest- mine decided it couldn't dial the other night. There would have been Hallowe'en forum stylings. Denied.

Make sure you buy one with removable anntennas so you can replace the standard ones with high-gain versions. I made that slip up with the D-Link 615 I bought a few weeks ago. Good router tho.

No, but you should get the benefits soon enough. Also Christmas.
Anyway, routers.

That's one of the chunky blue ones you can put Tomato on, isn' it? My Linksys isn't a chunky blue one, but it has done a great job in the years I've had it.
Are most routers finalised n spec now? Or compatible at least.

No, they're not. Only the very recently released ones will be. Dunno whether the finalised spec differs in hardware or software though, so it might be possible to upgrade the firmware on the older ones, so you need to be careful what you order.

Just because they're a currently sold product doesn't mean they're a new product and using the finalised N-spec.

I'd not heard of Tomato, but my router is one of those that can run custom firmware: Tomato, DD-WRT, Open-WRT, etc. Not that I've bothered as the pre-loaded stuff works perfectly well.

Budget, I dunno. Whatever it takes to get a router that works.

My WGR614 technically works, but it has very dodgy port forwarding and resets itself often.
I'd like a router that does neither of those bad things, ideally. That's my spec.
