Lost Coast

Post by NiGhtcrawler »

Just finished playing lost coast i think it was quite a nice add on its a shame on 2 things that 1. my computer doesnt support HDR else it would of been very nice to look at because without your back to normal HL2 graphics but i didnt complain much as they seem to have improved on them aswell and 2. i wish it was a bit longer, nice action and nice views but a tiny bit too short.
id like to know what the rest of you thought :w00t:

I dont know about being to short. I mean, it is free, so as far as value for money goes, anything longer than 0 seconds is good.

And with the HDR, my computer cries. We are talking single figure frame rates. So thats a no go.

It looks rather nice, but I was only getting 10-20fps on high quality. Whenever the HDR dims the lighting i keep thinking something is going to happen like a cutscene or something...

Hmm. I runs rather well here on modest settings, and it looks rather nice.. it has, however, frozen twice now. Arsebiscuits!

edit: I like the commentry. Very good.

Very nice I'd say and I only need to down the settings a little to get some acceptable fps. It reminds me a lot of a level from HL1 with the cliff walking stuff and it also has you fighting a helicopter at the top. edit: which is mentioned in the commentary

The only problem is these soldiers just arent getting into the spirit of the whole killing freeman thing, slackers! :ahoy:

I had the Ignorant Combine Soldiers problem a couple of times. Then it crashed.

Not the most stable thing in the world, is it?

I got mine running ok in Windowed mode with Hardware sound acceleration turned off (Start > Run: dxdiag).. even ran ok with Anti-Aliasing, which usually turns HL2 in to a quivering wreck.

Ran okay for me start to finish, which as mentioned above was not the largest portion of time ever. But then, I have done a lot of tweaking of late.

mine ran brill, max everything even 6x and 16x aa and af, never dropped below 30 fps. the combine soldiers just stand like that wen u die, cos ure not meant to die so i dnt think the code is written for a proper resume. well done on managing to die though.

So, who grabbed the harpoon with the gravity gun and 86'ed those two bastards going up the stairs in the beginning? It was the first thing I did. Totally ninja. :ninja:

I was getting 25-50 frames per second with everything on the highest settings, and I spent a good five minutes destroying those wooden stairs.

I re-formatted my pc and at last it works as it should. :boogie:

Lost cost is too short, but meh, was free. Anyway, graphics look lovely. Didnt have any probs with freezes or the ignoreing thing.

I was playing HL2 through again anyways, just got the coast bit, and then I find this has been released. Brill!

So its pretty damn good. I liked the bits telling you about the graphics engine (how the water is rendered 3 times) and game design (the 'arena'). Any new HL2 is good for me, so what I've played so far is good.

OH HELL YEAH! That fucking win'd it!

Mine was fine, apart from it was 800x600 with HDR on. I haven't tried it with a higher res yet.

Is the level incorporated into the game then?

Nope, 'fraid not. It just turned up at the right time.
