Adventure games

Post by spoodie »

I've just started playing adventure games again, point-and-click type things or similar, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good ones I might have missed?

Good ones I've played/got:
Grim Fandango
Monkey Islands
Indys
Syberias
Full Throttle
Longest Journey
Sam & Max
Day of the Tentacle

not interested in Maniac Mansion or Zak McKraken, too old.

Loved the first two, got the 3rd for the xbox, it's shit, crippled by insane loading times and mindless box pushing puzzles.

beneath a steel sky? its free. its on the floor and the publisher put it there.

LOOM is quite good, but if you think Zak Mcraken/manic mansion are too old then thats probably too old as well.
Shadow of the comet is another oldie but goodie (esp. if you like HP Lovecraft's works)

Lure of the temptress.
Discworld Noir, its the best of the discworld games. but it is by T.Pratchett so be warned.

some of the later Leisure Suit Larrys as well

same here. another genre mixing disaster. I hear there could be a 4th one on the way which will learn from the mistakes of the previous. Also Beneath a Steel Sky 2, woo!

Shadow of the Comet sounds interesting. but I tried one of the discworld games recently and I couldn't get it to run on XP, I did pick it off the floor though so it may have been soiled.

a problem with these older games is that it's hard to get them to run if they are not supported by ScummVM :(
I guess I could try DOSbox or something

Darn it, I was going to suggest those. If anyone finds a way of getting Shadow of the Comet working in XP please post it. It was one of those games I almost bought when it came out and thought 'I'll get it eventually'. Now I can't get it to run :(

Shadow of the Comet and Discworld Noir are the only ones I've never played but sound good. Maybe I'll retry Loom and Lure.

Are there any other gems out there that I don't know about? I've only just discovered the Syberia games so was hoping there were others I'd missed but maybe I've just played too many of these games and there's none left to find.

Have you tried Sanitarium? That's a good pointy clicky type game, and very odd. It might even be abandonware too now.
