The LucasArts peeps reveal the motivation to have Star Wars: The Old Republic be a fully voiced MMO, in a video below. None has done it before (although it's not the only MMO in development aiming to do it), and it's a huge task. Especially in a game that's essentially two games, since there's no shared quests between Republic and Sith campaigns. It's hundreds of thousands of lines.

This was a bit of a game breaker in Aids. Tortoise had voices then everyone was mute or just grunted. If they'd just grunted from the start of had a line or two each then it would have been better than getting all excited about actually hearing voices and then getting fuck all.

Voices from start to finish, even if it IS just a line or two (not constantly repeated by every random fucker a la oblivion though) would help the immersion no end.

But please, please, please hire more than a handful of voice actors who try and do shit funny accents for lots of races. And don't hire that dude who was in ds9 and does loads of voice acting because it'll sound like I'm talking to that vampire from oblivion or that dude in mass effect and it'll suck.

I know right? I have tried a couple of times before (Anarchy Online, TR beta) but none of the current MMOs out there have a setting that interests me that much. This one is essentially a sequel to the KOTOR series which I love, so if this is any good I'll have to figure out a way to subscribe.

The other mmo I am interested in is the rumored Dreamfall one that's nothing more than an idea at the moment. I'm not sure how a story and character driven game* would work as an MMO, but I still want to see how it would turn out.

*yes I use "game" lightly.

Huh, Steve Blum does another videogame voiceover, who would'a thought :D
I will always think of Cowboy Bebop when I hear him.

Hmmmm. That has left me more than a little underwhelmed, to be honest.
