As for FJ's cpmments about how effective they are. True, they're probably not worth the resources, but these are militias with entire planets at their disposal. Compare how they play in-game with how they act in the FMVs and there's not a huge difference. Apply modern warfare principles and you'd undoubtely never see two mechs meet - long range missiles from aircraft would put them on their arses long before they met each other, much like modern armour is edging towards today. Doesn't make for a great game though, and I'm happy to suspend enough realism to believe that mech combat is feasible if it makes a game I want to play. After all, the most popular games all do it.
