That worries me...

You can't see any way down other than the elevator shaft. At least not from where you are. You're right, though. From what you've seen, even shoddy Downtown buildings like this should have some alternative method of escape from a basement level.

I'll go outside then and have a look around? :) I'll try to be a bit more careful since or cover is blown.

Detect (4) 10+9 = 23
Sneak (5) 5+9 = 19
Streetwise? (2) 7+5 = 14

You don't see anyone around out here. Not unusual - Downtowners usually move away from sounds of gunfire. You can't see any obvious escape ladders leading down, in fact you appear to be at ground level (it's not always obvious in Mort). Not that that means there's nothing below you - sewers, maintenance tunnels, gauss train tunnels, underground units, and all manner of things lead miles into the planet's surface under the city. However, where you're stood the only thing you can see when you look down is the concrete road.

So What do you guys think? Elevator... explore the next door "identical" building to try to get underground (suggest the way grimmie got in, in case it is guarded as well... or try the sewers.. or what ever else.

( bed time for me, I will go along with any decision and follow the team in case something happens.)

I'll check to see if there's a ladder going down the shaft, half-life style.
Other than that, I guess we can check surrounding buildings and make lots of detect rolls - my guess is that we're all mincemeat if we get into the lift itself.

There is indeed a ladder leading down the shaft. Other than that there are identical buildings either side, both abandoned, and several manholes in the road.

Climbers could hook up here and whizz down fairly speedy, but I dunno about the rest of the team.
What do you guys think, we need to act quickly whatever.

What kind of roll(s) would I need to make to climb down, anchor myself fairly well, and then just poke my A/V Stalk down to see through the screen?

One imagines a Climb, a Detect and possibly a Dex?

Just climb to get there, maybe a sneak, and detect if you get your AV stalk in. It's not as simple as just sticking your AV stalk down - the lift car is at the next level down. However, there are a few places in the top of it to peer through.

Climbing: 10, 4 + 3 = 17
Sneak: 9, 9 + 4 = 22
Detect: 3, 9 + 3 = 15

You peer into the basement. It's pitch black, but I think you have UV/IR. You've a limited field of vision, but on IR you can see several people in firing positions behind large, solid objects.

Oh yeah they are definitely ready for us. I can only assume they have IR as well because they're sitting in the dark.
Maybe we could use the dead guys as shields?

Grimmie looks at Eraser.
I think a grenade thrown in to a dark room would be amusing, don't you?

Climbing down -

2+10+9 = 21. I'm gonna regret these rolls later I know it.

If there is gap enough, Eraser pops the pin and lobs one of the DA90 Frag grenades into the room

Thrown - 5+6+6 = 17...

You realise the grille is closed, and the chances of the grenade making it through one of the holes are pretty small?

Well I could Port into the middle of them and let off a Flash. Problem is I'm not as quick as some people, so they might cut me down as soon as I meteralise.

Unless onre of you pulls their attention first?
