Re: I wouldn't normally, but...
Any particular reason, though? I don't like the fact he wasn't elected as PM, but I remember what an utter bunch of cupcakes the other lot were in power.amblin wrote:Everyone who feels the same as I should sign this:

And forward it to everyone they know.
This has been a public service announcement which'll achieve precisely nothing, but wouldn't it be funny to get that to 55million signatures.
All this "government red-faced over new revelation" news is just the press bringing up stuff they probably already knew about, but timing it to look like a catalogue of errors while they stand on their platforms of informative neutrality before retiring to their clubs to feel smug about how clever they are at having influenced politics, at least that's how I imagine it.
Slightly unusual in this last business is (particularly) the Telegraph having a go at both sides, but they might see it as an opportunity for Cameron to try to distance his party from the spectre of sleaze which so damaged them when last in power.
Both sides could probably use some cleaning up, the press's timing of these revelations to coincide with many feeling the financial effects of recession may mean that political popularity will be gained for whoever is willing to go the furthest in punishing their own miscreants. Such a bloodbath will likely delight the press even further.
I can't say I'm sorry that the wheels have fallen off their gravy train, but can't say the revelations are exactly surprising, either.
Allegedly.

Way I see it we chose the Labour party to lead this country by voting in their candidates in in the various constituencies. It's up the them to chose who they want to lead them.
Given that overall party policy is determined by the party, it is unlikely that there will be much difference with a different leader, and it was on the basis of that policy that they were elected.
If the public demand a say in the leader, where do you draw the line? Should the cabinet be elected? Do we end up with a popularity contest with the country run by lovable idiots like Boris Johnson?
As for the whole expenses issue there perhaps needs to be more clarity in what can be claimed, but the expenses is all part of a relatively poorly paid package for the position.

I think Cameron is a highly polished turd. The man has absolutely nothing to say, but he will whore himself in any manner of ways to try and appeal to any and everyone.
Christ, people thought Blair was bad for his polished media image - Cameron is just as bad if not worse.
As for "having his turn" - fuck that, let the Libs have a go if that's your argument.

I honestly can't stand any public faced front bencher types from either side other than Vince cable. And even he leaves a lot to be desired. We seem to have developed a case of all our politicians are arse faced non-entities really. You hear a name when it's connected to a fuck up and that's about it.
I would say it's time to give the other side a go, even though I'd rather watch them die in a fire. As the entrenched effects of long term government has shown, no matter the colour of your party emblem once you spend too long bimbling about the halls of power, the shit starts piling up. Give the conservatives a go, if they're shit then get rid of them after four years and try again.
As for the lib dems, they might have some good ideas and some bad, but put them into office and bad shit will happen. Really nothing other than I think they've spent so long as 'those fuckers in the corner' that they wouldn't know what to do. Maybe that's better than knowing all the tricks of the long political con but I doubt it.
One thing I don't like is the idea that that toast rack chested knob milliband is regarded as future PM material.
Can we not clone someone from Churchill's DNA and have a strong leader back? Regardless of their political stance. Failing that, 5punk for government!

Indeed. All the parties are equally shit, it's just a matter of choosing the least offensive one. The whole system is in need of an overhaul as the recent (and many previous) scandals have shown. Take Keith Vaz, for example. Repeatedly disciplined for corruption, but yet he still retains his position as an MP. They address these people as Right Honourable, which is so far from the truth I can only assume they find amusement in the irony.

Normally, that's fine - it's just Brown taking over from Blair seemed like a deal they made between themselves because they were mates.randomgazz wrote:Way I see it we chose the Labour party to lead this country by voting in their candidates in in the various constituencies. Also, just noticed they removed the subtley placed "Vaz is a cupcake" from the Wiki. Shame.

Still there of course.
