The weekend before last Cryptic opened the doors of their Champions Online beta to the gentlemen of the press, and let them have a crack. And lo! a crack was had. Well, John and I did, anyway, and then John gave up after the interface annoyed him. He intended to come back later in the week, not realising that it was only open for a few days. I, on the other hand, persisted manfully, and managed to play the tutorial section and get to level five before I had to go and hammer together some shelves or something. I read the comments below and almost everyone is skeptical. Reminds me of Everquest 2 which wasn't Everquest 2 at all....just a simplified, graphically updated version with the standard UI for all newer Fantasy games.

Champions (CoH2) is attempting to make it more complex which is a good thing but it doesn't sound like there's anything new and groundbreaking with this game.

As I am on the beta, I cant possibly comment, as that would be a breach of the NDA.

However, if I were not under an NDA, I would be saying something along the lines of "no, its actually quite brilliant. All the best bits of CoH, with some extra good bits, and some spit and polish."

But I am under an NDA. So I'm not saying that.

Looking at that picture, I wonder if I could produce a huge angry looking bloke in skin tight black and pink Lycra who fired magenta lightning at bad guys. He would be called Lord Faaabulous.

I am also playing the beta and I also can't comment. However I am definitely going to get the game on release, as I may or may not have really enjoyed the last play test.
