oh...and beware the "mini" Imax's...they're popping up everywhere here...they don't tell you the screens are 2/3's the size of real Imax's and the sound quality wasn't up to par...and cost me $1 more...bastards

If it was just a bunch of girls in bikinis shooting waterpistols filled with whiskey at each other, then he'd like it. :P

...come to think of it, so would I.

Mordeth, is there anything you like? :P
I like you ;)

Actually, seems like anime is the only thing that impresses me much these days. Been watching Death Note and the first 12 episodes have been quite amazing so far.

Most of the few TV shows I watched are cancelled but still watching Supernatural, Burn Notice, Trueblood and Castle.

The last movie I remember liking was Batman Begins and the Joker parts of Dark Knight. Can't remember anything else recent though...I'm sure there's a couple others...

I watched the first episode of Death Note, just to see what all the fuss was about, and it seemed like adolescent guff to me. Although I could understand why kids would like to watch it, while trying to cut themselves with blunt penknives.

It seemed a little sombre compared to the manga, which had a dark sense of fun. The live-action films were for fans only, really - some of the acting was pretty awful, although some was quite good.

You could say that for most entertainment these days. What interests me in Death Note is the originality, its complexity and the intellectual banter between Kira and L.

The problem with Star Trek was they spent 1 1/2 hours on their newly recreated "origins" which seemed to be played as a comedy and had a pathetic revenge story for the last 30mins.

I'm still a noob when it comes to the Anime world. I've only had a taste of maybe 10 different titles yet they all seem like "novels" compared to the mainstream "short-stories". I take your comments seriously FJ and I found Death Note Manga online and will check that out before i go further into the anime.

Spoodie on the other hand :ignore: You sound like an old religious man...just like my dad...he's turning 85, still going to church and would say the same thing...

The first half of the Death Note anime was pretty good. I found the constant one-up-manship of L and Kira, along with the moral ambiguousness really interesting. That all goes to fuck when that thing that happens happens. It's shit after that.
The movies were great because of their badness.

The Uninvited (2009)
Teenage girl is released from the nuthouse after coping from sick mom being blown up in the guesthouse. Comes home to Dad with new girlfriend. Mystery stuff happens, then gets haunted by dead mom.

Kept a good pace and is worth a watch. Nothing great but decent.

Valkyrie (2008)
Tries to show you there were good Germans and not just Nazi's.

I'm sure it was a great book but the movie is meh.

My Bloody Valentine (2009)
Nice pick-axe killings and a naked chick. I'm sure the 3-D effects were good...but overall...meh.

Gran Torino (2008)
The ol' Racist till you get to know them plot done well for the most part. Some dialogue was just out of place. Ending is something...but had flaws. Basically, was just trying to point out things about old war veterans. Meh

Underworld Rise of the Lycans (2009)
meh...The first one was awesome. 2nd one...can't remember it and this one is forgetable also. But, Lycans and Vamps killing each other is good to watch atleast once.

Paul Blart Mall Cop (2009)
pure kiddie movie....like a 4yr old...

meh...

I disagree, I quite enjoyed Gran Torino. I was also drunk at the time, but I did think it was quite a good film.

Saw Star Trek on Sunday. Christ on a bike it was good. Only problems i had with it were the badly disguised barcode scanners painted white on the bridge (same ones we have at work) and despite my love for him, i felt Simon Pegg was a bit hollow.

The Proposition (2006)
HereComesPete wrote:Yes. It's really good.

It was a good watch. Good story.

Although, it was lacking footage/imagery of the original crime. And then quite predictable at the end.

The captain was awesome in the begining out in the field, but, as soon as he returned home, he became wussified for the rest of the movie.

It was on the edge of being something really good.

I think that was kind of the point. Nick Cave tends to be involved in depressing and downbeat stuff and iirc he helped pen this. Bit like aronofsky or mendez, give people a taste of reality instead of constant happy endings.

It built you up with the strength of feeling and the actionetc then instead of being feel good it smashes it to show you how involved you are in the situation.

This week:

Death Proof
QT made a thing, it was watchable. pretty much a student film, but made with a budget. Few nasty moments, nowt special. 5/10

City of Ember
Family adventure thing, not super great, some bits just seemed a little wrong, but nice enough story, told well enough. 6/10

The Hurt Locker
Gulf war 2 Thriller/action thing focusing on an EOD team. I enjoyed this a lot. Watch it. Ideally in HD. 8/10

The Chase
Action/Adventure crap, Trashy fun, Fills an hour or so. 6/10

Death proof is weak compared to planet terror. Apparently they're making machete which is a faux film trailer on grind house. That should be awesome.

City of ember, enjoyable but could easily have been longer with more of the actual story in. Has Bill Murray.

The chase has Henry Rollins and Ron Jeremy in it. It is great because it is stupid.

Haven't seen the hurt locker, will sweep it.
