I was also hoping you would make the connection without outside influence, but I admit I've underestimated you. No matter, I have the assurances of Mr Haynes that you'll perform your investigation with the professionalism required. Perform well and I expect you'll become privvy to more of the details, although as we all know information can be a dangerous thing.
Anyway, I digress. The squad you are investigating were investigating a potential surge in black marketeering in the area. We suspected that this was down to a particular, as yet unknown, individual. However, before they could report their findings they seem to have been attacked. Shivers attending the scene of a reported gun battle found evidence of high volumes of automatic fire, and the corpse of the squad's Ebon. I would like you to find out what has happened to the rest of the squad, and follow up the results to a conclusion. The Shivers should be able to supply you with further details of the scene.

Could be that the ebon was removed on purpose, I know you lot have all sorts of tricks.
Any funky psychic powers you guys get for communicating telepathically?
She might've been a liability to keep alive, if they've been captured.
Maybe we should split up - investigating the missing squad members, and collect some info on Melody's death, too.

Well, as no one has mentioned manchine cults explicitly yet, K'trr is oblivious to what you are all on about...
One thing that does occur to him:

We should inspect the scene of the crime, as has been suggested. It may give more clues: if there is little blood, the other missing operatives may yet live. Of course, if there is enough blood to suspect they are dead, that raises questions as to why their corpses would be removed. Trophies, perhaps?
Sorry, just to spazz back and reply;deject wrote:So basically, find out what happened to Tycho, McAllen, and Rossi. I think we can handle that. I noticed you have a few pictures of my homeworld, have you been there?
I would give a little explanation on Manchine cults, but there's a good chance your characters have never heard of them either. You've probably heard of manchines though, so I'll pre-emptively explain what they are.Risikko wrote:Ah yes, Polo. I was stationed there earlier in my career. Beautiful planet, I'd very much like to go back one day.
Manchines were an old project to create a robotic security horse who would blend into the population. They're kind of like the Terminator in that they're robots with a fleshy exterior. Unfortunately the project didn't go as planned and was scrapped. The flesh on the robot skeletons would rot, and they quickly became repulsive. The existing manchines were ditched in the Cannibal Sectors in order to try to kill off some of the nasties who live there, which is typical of SLA procedure, but ended up becoming part of the problem, which is also typical. They've all long since gone bonkers and are notorious for constantly seeking out new sources of flesh for their metal bones. The prototype, Digger, still lives in Salvation Tower in Cannibal Sector 1, and is known to be one of the most dangerous entities in the World of Progress. There's a story about him in one of the books. You've all probably heard rumour of new manchines appearing too, which are quite different from the original SLA ones and appear to have been built more recently (although the original manchines are hundreds of years old, so the new ones are still pretty old).

I guess I'm the only one who read the whole rulebook then? The backstory for Thresher is pretty interesting as well.
I too would like to return eventually The constant rain and heat annoy me. The prey here are much more bizarre though.
Well unless you have more information you can give us, I think we should move on for the Shiver station and see what information they can give us. You guys (i.e.: the rest of the squad) have any questions?

As you all leave the building, a streak of flame and smoke passes overhead making a sound like a gauss train. As everybody (not just the squad, but everybody) looks up, several more pass over and one smashes into a building, leaving a gaping hole. Low roars mark the sound of others landing nearby, probably half a dozen or so. The nearest impacts are close enough for you to see people fleeing a few blocks away.
