This is an excellent time to rack up the odd achievments on the other classes, such as the Pyro's Axe 6 people in one life one, as scouts are easyish to kill.
The scout achievements are pretty much straight forward though, unlike the bastard medic ones and the occasional "right place, right time" achievements for the other two, they are very much mostly solo and repetitive action.
Hell, one of the scouts ones is double jump 1000 times, and another one is just running around. Stuff you'll get over time anyway.

Fail #2.
Here's a few ones, assuming you joined blue.
Create yourself a passworded server with at least 1 free slot.
In console:
Right, you're all set, you'll now want to do a few achievements
(Note that you have to open all lines with sv_cheats 1 and close every line with sv_cheats 0, otherwise you won't be able to do achievements during the session.)
Now move to a position where the engineer bot can build, it will mimic your movement.
Press your fire button and the engineer will build a teleporter entrance. Destroy it before it's built. Refill engineer bot's ammo and redo this two times.
Press fire button, engineer bot builds a sentry. Move as far as you can from it.
Destroy the sentry from afar with your pistol as soon as it's built.
You no longer need that bastard.
If you want any more of these Johnson just throw me an xfire.
Fail #2.
I'm afraid that you cannot recreate these situations on a public bot server, however you can do a whole lot of achievements on your own.Mr. Johnson wrote:I went on an achievement server, and still managed to only get three achievements or something, how do you people do it?!

Or you could just play the game and see what you unlock whilst having fun.
You really think cheating to unlock the additional weapons is good bubbles? Surely it just devalues any/all unlocks you get? Wouldn't you rather get them through playing?
I know other people cheat but unlocking them properly just means you hold yourself to a higher standard and can honestly feel proud of unlocking things with skill. Well that's how I see it anyway.

I'm with Pete.
F'instance the Pyro's "Ignite a Spy while he's flicking a ciggy", which is the Spy's taunt when he's holding the disguise kit is a one in a million chance of getting it right (at least until the Spy update comes out, which will have a taunt challenge), but I'm happy waiting for it.
I could cheat to get it in 5 minutes, but I won't
Principles and it all being cricket.

I could unlock them by skill but then I'd be sitting in public servers forever envying all the cheaters, that's not worth it. The amount of scouts on publics right now doesn't ruin the fun but they do keep you from doing the achievements properly. If you want to do it the proper way, be my guest. I'm not going to beg Valve to delete what I got because you disagree
Oh, I have a high standard in cheating, I figured it all out myself.

Why envy people like that? I pity them and their inability to work for something. Cheating because others do is no excuse, it lowers you to their standard, you gain nothing tangible and lose far more in terms of respect and ethics.
I don't intend to spam play any single class, I'll play whatever I feel like at the time and maybe I'll play a class that compliments another 5punker so the game flows better. I'd rather have fun than a few new weapons.
It's a game, if you haven't got the inclination to put the hours in then you really shouldn't expect the rewards that those who put the time in get. Cheating devalues it and as far as I'm concerned if you get banned from steam for cheating then it serves you right, I'll point and laugh.

It's up to Baliame if he wants to do it that way. Valve probably don't like it and I don't particularly, but it's not a banning offence and I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist over it. I tried it once and got a few achievements, but it was pretty boring. It was best when I got my pyro flare gun while playing normally, I love that gun.
We've gone over the subject of unlocks having pros and cons and that "cheaters" don't get any real advantage. They do however lose the greater satisfaction from earning the achievements and unlocks through regular play. "They're only cheating themselves" as your teachers at school probably said.
My excuse is not that I do it because others do it, I just do it because I can. Call me unethical, do not respect me, it's not like you're changing anything.
Yes, I'll probably get banned from Steam for doing nothing. Valve allows, or at least doesn't care about people who do achievements using bots.
You pity them for their inability to work? For me, it took about 3 hours, and I figured it out all myself, I would call that neither inability nor not work. Still, it's the inherent property of a programmer to be lazy. (Or at least the group of those people who I personally know)
You'd rather have fun than a few new weapons? I had fun in TEEF before, you people are the ones who got bored of it (and no I don't want to hear the squeaky whiny fuck monologue again, that's just an excuse), now I'm just having more fun with new weapons. Well christ stop caring so much would you, I chose to play the game this way.
Bottom line, I'm not going to discuss this topic any more, I "cheated", just like the last three times, but I did nothing Valve bans for, and what Valve doesn't ban for is allowed, even if unethical. Again, it's not like you're going to magically change my mind so I go buy a new TF2 and do it the proper way or something. I get the weapons, I have an arsenal at my disposal, so if I decide to play scout now, I have the weapons if I feel it benefits the team (well, probably my fun factor, but still you get the point) more.

I usually go on achievement servers (which always amount to just hectic team deathmatches in small box maps since people just kill instead of trying to do achievements) and arse about for fifteen minutes with whatever class has the new achievements, then I get bored and run around as a pyro for a few minutes then leave, usually with four or five of the new achievements. It's not cheating, but I admit it's a cheap way to get achievements.
Still, I'd rather be cheap and have the extra weapons to muck about with quicker than have to spend ages playing as one class to get them.
Not sure if anyone posted already, but there's a post by one of the devs somewhere about people who had been using an unlocker program to do it, and how they've been stripped of all their achievements for using it.

Entirely up to him. I wasn't saying he shouldn't do it, just that I personally felt that it was wrong.spoodie wrote:![]()

This is what I was aiming for, if it appears personal toward Bubbles then apologies. I have no feelings towards you personally in regard to this matter. It's entirely your choice how you gets those unlocks. Just that unlocking them through playing is to me far more satisfying and should be experienced even if it puts you at a supposed disadvantage against others.spoodie wrote:They do however lose the greater satisfaction from earning the achievements and unlocks through regular play.

It sounds like Baliame enjoyed doing it his way - working out how to do it with bots and so forth certainly sounds like more fun than an achievement server, or organised event where people are corralled into lining up for some to take turns getting specific ones.
It's something I might mess about with if I had a few bored moments, perhaps not to get achievements specifically, but to just dick around and try out ridiculous scenarios, like making pyro towers or seeing how many scouts I could rocket-jump over.

After playing that hour or so with a few of you I got another achievement and got two others half done, only need a few more for the last unlock.
Also I really like the sandman. Stunning an ubered heavy is so satisfying, and if you're lucky enough for the ball to bounce back so you can pick it up and do it a second time you waste their entire uber
