Well i've only played it for 15 mins and I wont be able to play again for a while until the computer shop fits my new fan. The recoil mightnt be as bad once i get used to it and it does look very pretty. I dont like the HDR though, it just makes everything really bright and lowers my fps. I dont know how valve think having extremely bright lights that go darker after you stare at them for a few seconds is realistic.

But I still enjoyed it, took a while to get used to the new weapons, and last night I just tried the one, will have a proper look at it all tonight and make an opinion then... but on first impressions I enjoyed it immensely, look forward to some custom maps too.

This. I got some awesome shots in :DGunslinger42 wrote:The rocket launcher = instant hilarity.
On the recoil issue. The first message that came up on the game when I started up was "Crouch (Ctrl) or go Prone (z) to increase accuracy." This is simple stuff people, it's like that in almost any game.. Seriously. Do as the little message says and make yourself as small as possible, lower your centre of gravity, it shouldn't be too bad then.

the thing about DOD is that it's even more important to crouch or go prone when you're shooting. Recoil almost disappears when you're prone. If you're trying to actually hit anything far away you need to go prone. also never aim for the head if you're running around. aim low and the recoil will bring the fire up the target's body.

It wasn't just the recoil, but the general accuracy. I just had a go with the german pistol, crouched facing a wall about a pace away, and emptied the clip, one shot at a time. Not a single bullet hit the crosshair location they all were deliberately offset. Translate this to a shot aimed at the head at ten paces and it means the inaccurate, but lucky player is rewarded - and an accurate player is actually less likely to get a kill.Grimmie wrote:On the recoil issue. I've gotten used to (trying to) aim cleanly at the head, save bullets for good shots and keep moving, so success at this game is the antithesis of my current playstyle:
- aim at the body centre, as the bullets actually circle the reticule, a bit of twitching, or spraying doesn't hurt either, plus some luck
- stop and crouch or go prone before firing - clearly it is advantageous to be in position before your enemy comes in view, so camping in a hard-to-see locations will get kills, but not help the advance much. Care needs to be taken when crouching though, if players are aiming for the chest/body a crouch can give them a free headshot.
Also, that look-down-barrel-mode takes an age to deploy.
I will certainly play it quite a bit more before giving up on it, it just needs quite a lot of adjustment to how I would normally react when sighting an enemy.
