City of Heroes/Villains revival

Post by Lateralus »

I have relatively limited experience of MMOs, being limited as I am to CoH/V and Conan, but of all the games I've played (not just MMOs), City of Heroes/Villains has always seemed the most consistently 5punky. I like the fact that no matter who is playing, it's almost always possible to join a group since you can either get exemplared/side-kicked, or jump onto a different character at the same level.

Being the disorganised bunch that we are, it's a challenge to get enough people together for 5punky gaming, now more than ever. The 5cheduler is a brilliant addition to the forum, but it just seems to me that regular mass gaming is an increasingly rare event. I'm well aware that my own participation in both gaming and the forum has waned of late, but I'd like to be able to start playing a game and have one, two or ten other 5punkers be able to join in as and when they please.

Therefore, I propose a revival of City of Heroes. I know that a lot of people here do or have played it in the past, and for those that haven't forayed into the world of MMOs, it's a good one to try. The subs are cheap (although I admit I don't know the current rate) and there is a free 14 day trial available. I've even seen it said that if we restarted it, Dog Pants would level up! If that doesn't tempt you then nothing will!

So, who still has CoH/V, and who would be interested in getting it?

Just downloaded it and got a referral from Berk, which means he gets a free month if I sub. Bring on the spandex!

I've voted Nay.

Simply because while I'm at uni I'm not doing any MMOs because I know I'll just end up playing them instead of uni work. A decision I'm sticking to until June and the end of my 3rd year.

I would love to play it with 5punkers though, as you lot make any game extra fun.

I voted yay because I'm happy to give it month or two of subs and I'll come and tank for a bit, but I'll still be TSless and normal baby conditions apply.

As this is an attempt to seek out opinions as well as garner interest, I'd be interested to know why people are saying no as well as those saying yay. I know full-well that it's not going to appeal to all, or maybe even most 5punkers, but all opinions are welcome!

hmmm seem to be having a problem getting the exe, the updater comes up, with a red x instead of a pic, and it sits on 0/0 for ages before giving up and going to the pub...

Anyone else having a problem?

I'll have a doss around it in and am up for some silliness, but I really hate trying to level in it.

I said "nay" because I can barely be bothered to play Warcraft, let alone another MMO.

I said 'nay' because I have played it in the past and it bored the tits off me.

I voted Yay because, well, fuck it why not?

Do you get any sort of incentive for inviting people back who haven't subbed in a while?

As Berk has hogged enough of them, poke me if anyone else wants an invite. :P

If new people are starting together, shall we all start new characters? :)
