The matter's settled. The DLC for Left 4 Dead will be absomolutely free on PC and 360. Valve have proclaimed the good news about the L4D Survival Pack, which we describe in words here. Quite how Valve have managed to get something out on 360 without forcing the masses to tithe to the Redmond Beasts we don't know, but that's not our problem anyway.

The Survival Pack will include the mysterious "Survival" multiplayer mode (I'm going to take a guess - it's a mode where you see how long you can survive for, without safe rooms?), as well as Versus modes for Death Toll and Dead Air. And of course the PC version will come with the much-awaited SDK gubbins. Carry on.Related stories: Posted by botherer. |

Although it looks like the new Vs campaigns are likely to be Dead Air and Death Toll, but yay none the less!

Death Toll is probably going to be just as shit as Blood Harvest. Dead Air, however, should be fun.

And of course update means I will resume my work on my map.

I thought it was two new campaigns? Fuck socks! I don't care about vs, I want new co-op stuff.

Survival mode if it's a bit like the nazi zombie thing on cod:waw should be rather excellent.

I would also like a lobby thing that finds campaign games on the same continent, or at least lets me choose.

Care to explain why you prefer bore-op over versus?

Versus removes everything that makes L4D fun.
There's no atmosphere, no balance, no pacing, no feeling of camaraderie. It's just a bland shooter.

I play L4D to have some drunk fun with my mates, not to get raped by some whiny little fucks who spend far too long playing it.

Yeah, this whiny little fuck is happy to be on the other side on the skill-o-meter for once, you whiny big fuck. :P
Stoat wrote:There's no atmosphere
Okay, I don't get what you mean here. I mean it's basically the same map, same time of the day, and you get to shoot the same zombies. I don't really have the atmosphere feeling in co-op, basically you see a zombie only once in a while, special infected maybe twice per chapter, and that brings me to
Stoat wrote:no pacing, bland shooter
Versus is actually the faster-paced of the two gamemodes, and also focuses more on teamwork. Bland shooter is however a fair point since you're almost always on the edge looking out for enemies, much like in CSS. This is not bad though, it's what makes versus not as boring as co-op.
Stoat wrote:no balance
Versus mode in theory is pretty much balanced, however, you can never ever balance a multi-sided multiplayer game. This is even true to games which offer both sides the same choices, such as TF2. In a multiplayer game, should it be an RTS, FPS, MMO, whatever the hell, it's only fair to assume that one team is better than the other.

Ps. I think I discovered a werdfilter.

Come back when you actually understand the meaning of cameraderie, Bubbles.
Then you will understand why Co-op is far more fun then VS.

I just googled it, still getting two meaning. Well if it's about teamwork, I've never seen boreop need as much teamwork as versus. If it's about playing with randoms, I would never fucking ever play a coop game with a random. If it's something else, give me your ultimate reason for preferring boreop in English.

Your arguments aren't going to make me enjoy versus mode.

I play it infrequently for some fairly mindless horde shooting fun. That's not often enough for me to keep up with the skill level many players and getting raped is not fun.

I find coop whether you're drunk or not to be a lot more fun than the vs mode. I've played both game modes for about the same amount of time but have had loads more lols in coop. Mainly screaming for help or screaming as I try to reach somebody as their health slowly drops. Like has already been pointed out, vs in theory should be balanced but it rarely is. A single decent player is all that is needed in vs mode to completely arse over the survivors. At least in coop one of the weaker or less competent players can be helped through to the end by the others.

Either that or it's because you don't get as much enjoyment out of helping your mates out.

Didn't mean to sound rude there Baliame, even though it did, just making a statement, cameraderie for me means having people to do fun stuff with and occasionally do something serious.
Y'know, friends.

Anyway, I know you understand, but as berk said earlier on teamspack, you're a junior member so you have to make these mistakes in the beginning, that's how you figure out what its all about.
And not just in games.

kinda forgot where I was going halfway through, doesn't make any sense now. oh well.

Well I guess coop was just not tailored for me. It was never a problem to find someone to play with - Slinger was probably always up for L4D, probably some extras as well, it's just that no matter how I tried I couldn't find coop fun - not alone, not with 5punk. In versus however, we had tons of fun, raping people was always a secondary satisfaction.

And I don't consider Berk a credible source, he's having a period all year round or something :P

Anyway, I declare this argument over, expect Life Sentence around a month after SDK release.

Sitting on the fence? What's this nonsense?

Hmm, I'm glad I never bought left for bread, doesn't seem that win now the hype's died down.

Problem is it's a long Co-op game with limited maps.

and a mediocre MP game in VS, with needless bots, balance issues and even more limited maps.

The Co-op is still great fun, but given there's only 4 maps, it gets boring pretty fast if you're playing it regularly.

The reason Swat, Raven shield and Jops hold up pretty well is the custom maps and mods. If we get bored, we add 10 more maps and some new guns.

That and they're not super fast paced, so you spend a lot of time drinking.
