web hosting

Post by spoodie »

I've got to renew spoodie.com next month and pipex want £130 for domain registration and hosting for a year, can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative that doesn't sacrifice reliability?

mainly I use it for hosting a few files and email forwarding

Yep, dreamhost.com (the new 5punk hosting) is really good (and cheap with a promotional code I could give you).

The only reason we had downtime a week or so ago, was due to a power cut knocking out their data centre, and unfortunately 2 of the 3 UPS systems the site runs on failed, and they are chasing this up, and resolving it so that it never happens again.

They took this downtime very seriously, and reliability/uptime seems to be their main focus, which is a good thing.

Their control panel is very good as well, so if you're interested, let me know, and I can knock it down to about $30 for a years hosting.

After a year, it will go up to $8 a month though, but I wouldn't advise you to go to urevised.com, as even though they are the cheapest around, their reliability is terrible.

It all depends on how much you want to spend per month/annum, and then looking around for the best deal narf.

i had the same problem with pipex for a client. I would normally take the hosting on myself, but the client liked pipex. I ended up moving them to 123-reg for the domain, and webfusion for the hosting. They are run by pipex but are much cheaper
