As with most foreigners, you write better English than most English people can.

Need to work on paragraphs though!

I even once got put in a remedial English class because my handwriting is utterly shit, and I can't write stories. I spent a year with a piece of plastic writing upper case G's, that really helped my education

Make that "English speaking people". US deserves to be included. Not our US members of course, just the average.

It's weird, I've gone through my school life seeing a bunch of clearly very smart individuals being utterly failed by the education system. Still, a fair few were lucky enough to be scooped up by a good teacher (which, luckily, I've had a few of) and been given the attention or whatever they needed to find themselves a foothold.

I generally dislike it when an individual's superiors are held responsible for the individual's own failings (espec. when the failings were brought on by the individual's choices), but in education, the responsibility is entirely justified. Teachers are far too often shit and don't take their responsibility in any way seriously.

Johnson, Adderall or other Amphetamine salt-type things would be good for the concentration, ritalin isn't too great, from what I've heard. No personal experience, though.

Depends on the type of brain.

From what I've seen, The more hyper kind generally do better on ritalin. the not hyper ones often do better on amphetamine based things.

In the UK (IIRC) they have to give you ritalin first (at least, they used to) then if that doesn't help so well, they'll let you try other stuff.

here you can take anything the doctor prescribes you, but to be safe i'm going to go with ritalin first (i tried natural stuff first, but that was completely unhelpful).
Also, in retrospect of what i wrote earlier on today; sorry to act like such an attention whore, wasn't my intention. I was going to write something about depression but words kept coming!

Here the doctors are meant to feed you ritalin first, then you can change stuff about, they have guidelines and stuff for it.

I don't feel there's any need for you to need to apologise. I honestly don't think it was attention whoreish. If you needed to say it then better it be said and you've unburdened yourself. I honestly can't think of anyone who would bash you or flame on your post, we're all your dysfunctional alcohol (and matte taart) loving brothers!

I have a million things to say about the topics raised in this thread, but I'm not sure I want to. I should be depressed from what I've experienced in recent times but I'm not, the education system pretty much failed me but in a different way to those posted.

What I will say is that I find Mr. J's English is astoundingly good, especially given his perhaps sketchy education, perhaps that's because languages were the only thing I've ever found difficult. I've never had trouble understanding what he's saying, or his feelings when posting, to me that's astonishing and genius.

I've always been terribly shit at things like language too, art and other creative and social things that go with it generally baffle me. I truly cannot imagine being fluent in any other language. Even my cooking is based on a more molecular gastronomy technique than any innate flair.

Having said that though, my terrible attention span made me quite shit at maths too, my brain is apparently capable of multipoint non-linear thinking (I do like that phrase). So the only thing I'm good at is coming up with answers that are as baffling as the question they aim to solve.

So in effect I'm good at bullshitting. :P

Nah, they speak something remotely resembling English, and they write something I occasionally still fail to understand. Except more intelligent ones of course, of which there are about 5 and we have all of them :P
