WoW client in US needing tweaked so I can play with EU peeps

Post by centerededgedesign »

Ok, I am stumped. Short of taking the day or so it would require me to un and re-install WoW and BC, what can I do to access EU servers?

Turns out my toons are mostly on a high population Aggramar (US) server, and able to take advantage of a free realm swap, but not familiar with that at all, and not sure if that would benefit me in this process or not.

Please help!

Apparently, you need to go into

C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data and edit realmlist.wtf (back it up first) to have

set realmlist eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com
set patchlist eu.version.worldofwarcraft.com
set portal eu

instead of whatever it does.

But I have no idea if you need a separate subscription for wowEU.

:above: You probably need an EU account https://signup.wow-europe.com/menu.html?locale=en_GB but try what berk said and see if it lets you login.

I'm pretty sure you need an EU account. When I first tried Warcraft I created a US trial account by accident and had to recreate it for an EU account. Then when I decided to give it a month's subscription I accidentally activated my US account again instead of my EU one. Fucking wow.com.

It might be possible to transfer between US and EU (you could in CoH if you badgered them enough), but it'll probably cost money and you'll probably still need an EU account.

Fixed, unless you want to fuck up your client with a European patch. Subscriptions are seperate for the two though.

aye, fail. Not in the monies enough atm to pay for a seperate account yet. That and the logistical problem of playing with my daughter when we get a second pc working for it involves that we both be on the same server....

Although I'm kinda tempted to just toss the characters we have to the wind and start anew on an EU server, then create the second account at some future date, I'm not quite ready to start all my toons anew yet! Doing all the low level quests AGAIN would probably drain the fun from it. But time will tell...

Thanks to everyone for your help! 5punkers are the bestest!
