Well what I meant by open ended was something more like sandbox but I couldn't think of the word at the time. Just the type of game that most people end up roaming around doing mostly fuck all in, and that you just seem to get through that type of big open game far quicker than most people do
Like GTA4, I've spent 40-50 hours on it and only done about 40% of the game, but I probably could have done all the missions and most of the side stuff in that time. To each his own I suppose.

Now go back and do all the other missions.
Seriously, I was 20% into the game when you were almost 50% in, mainly because I took some time to explore and not power through the main faction quests. (hell, I've got too far in the faction stuff so I've gone back to an earlier save to just kill more shit randomly)
Play the game the way it's intended. If you played HL2 like it was a massive open space, you'd be disappointed. You've just played FC2 like it's a HL2 style linear game and are disappointed.

Bashy Chicken is bashy. Thank you for proving I shouldn't buy this.Chickenz wrote:Short game is short. 70% done after only ten hours seems a bit wrong to me. CoD4 was just the right length this seems too short. I'm having the same problem with this like I did SoC. Fantastic but where the hell is the rest of it??
For me it's suffering the same fate as Assassins Creed, the same four missions repeated over and over and over and over and over and over. Yes it's an incredibly pretty game but good god I need more missions than go here kill him, go here blow that truck up and go here get pills.
I don't think it deserves the high 90%'s and the 9/10's and 10/10's I think its more a 7/10 and 6 of that is for the very pretty engine.

CONGRATULATIONS CHICKENZ! YOU WIN! YOU (nearly) BEAT THE GAME!
Unfortunately, as with every game ever you have raced through it as fast as you can and then declared it to be too short. How many hours until you've finished wow?
I spent a few minutes on a hill watching the sun go down through the trees as I shot holes in men in flip flops and pink t-shirts. It was glorious. After the dust had settled and the slightly too bright for my tastes blood had soaked in, I stayed there to watch the sun dip below the horizon and listened to the creatures come out to make noise. Then I went to bed with some crazy old slavic type doing exercises in my house.
I like the end of a game, best guns, best enemies, the exhilaration of capping the bad guy. But as with stalker and clear sky, I'm having so much fun wandering around doing random things that I don't want it to end, so I'm not progressing it on purpose.
I think running through it guns blazing, blood pumping, eyes on the target at all times isn't showing proper respect to the efforts that the dev's put into this meisterwerk of a game.

While I've not got it (yet, I'm debating whether to buy it, F3 next week after all), Chicken does have a valid point, run and gunning through the main quest IS a valid method of completing the game, while not one I agree with if it's a good game as I like exploring, but if the main quest is just Shorty McShort, it had better be damn good, a main quest should make up a fair decent amount of hours, around 15 would be nice for a game like this, allowing you to have a decent time on the main quest and bulk up the hours doing other fun shit.
That's one of my gripes with the recently completed KOTOR II, it's pretty much all main quest but it was a bit on the short side (however, it's partly forgiven as I know the extra stuff is actually there in game, just cut and not accessable as they wanted to release the game rather than finish it, it explains the ending being shit). That and the bugs. Grr.

Oh, and this was near the start, when I thought that F would turn on a flashlight, and Q changed to my previous weapon.
Needless to say, this was my first encounter of Molotov-win.

Widescreen fix is here. Unfortunately punkbuster may see it as a mod file and tell you to fuck off.

Also - for multiplayer sign up, the key is the install key again, even though it asks for it with a different name.
Some people can only use the numbers at the top of the keyboard to enter the code, others only the numpad.
Some people got their disk verified with non-caps code, you may need to try it caps or non-caps, I think it was meant to be only caps worked, but it's fucked up.
Also the master server has been down for a while now but it shouldn't affect you creating a ubi.com profile. Or like me discovering you already had one that you'd completely forgotten about.

For the first hour of play I was carefully approaching people on the off chance they might have been friendly. Now I just shoot anyone that I see.
I'm enjoying it so far. There's nothing particularly groundbreaking about it, but it's obscenely massive and pretty (twss). I like that I don't feel rushed into doing any mission in particular (although that did lead to the death of one of my buddies in one instance). Enjoying avoiding cars and walking everywhere to admire the scenery.
Also, fire. Lovely, lovely fire.

Or order it for £25 from play for the steel book edition!!!!!!buzzmong wrote:So...after a few days playing it, is it worth parting with my cash right now as it's worth £30ish, or is it worth waiting for it to hit £20 in 6-8 months time?

Don't think it's worth the rating it got (but I am only at the start of the game still)
