If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

I use dvd shrink, along with anydvd, just because it's faster at fucking CSS over.

autoGK is handy for making stuff into avi (be careful, some versions contain some (easily removed, iirc) adware)

I also use DVD Shrink. It's simple and pretty easy to use and you can strip out all the shit you don't want like previews and the French audio track.

I use DVDShrink with AnyDVD (which I bought) for reauthoring, but for simple rip and dump, DVDDecrypter does the job.

To make divx's you can run AutoGordianKnot directly on the VOBs, but for media sharing, the Red Kawa tools for your preferred console do a good job.

DVD43 is a free alternative to AnyDVD, though it's not quite as awesome. That being said, DVD Shrink is pretty good at removing copy protection, it's worked on every disc I've tried it on.

It is pretty good, but I've had trouble with some discs in the past, not to mention it's probably 30-40% faster if you let anydvd deal with the compression.
