Spec me a case bitches

Post by wiggles »

hi

i seriously need a new case. the one i have is noisy and has stupid lights and computer 'bling' in/on it. but mostly its the noise that bothers me, a few years ago when i bought the case it was simply a gaming machine, i didnt care about noise and i actually liked all the silly bits on the case. now i need it for more than a gaming case, it has to do gcse coursework etc. that is why i come to all you devoted 5punkers asking for a case which fits these criteria-
-quiet
-not TOO big ( has to fit a 4850, 2 hdds and an arctic cpu cooler in)
-fairly modest looking (black, simple lines, but nicely finished)
-reasonable cooling, hopefully keeping the whole thing under 50C

and most importantly- under or around £50 (unless the case is seriously good for ,say, £60)

SPECS-
amd 5500 x2
2 hdds
gigabyte mobo
powercolor 4850 ecs extreme (custom cooler)
arctic cooling freezer pro
crucial ballistix 800 mhz ram (2x1gb)
corsair 520w atx modular psu
lg dvd/rw drive

thx

I was about to post exactly what berk did, bloody good case for that money.

If you can squeeze a few more pennies the 900 is as ugly a case, bit bigger, but features on the shipping forecasts it's so windy, quiet too given the airflow it has.

i recommend the antec 300 too, it's bloody huge, and does exactly what it says on the tin.

I like the look of this one, comes to £60 after p&p, I'll most likely be getting it for my future new PC. Some higher res images here.

I've heard good things about those, meant to be Lian Li's budget options, IIRC

Yeah, it looks like the non-modular version of mine, with the PCI cooler fan as an option. Haven't had any complaints about mine save for it being a little cramped against the graphics card if every drive bay is fully loaded - this should be fine though, as the drives are mounted sideways.

u think a intel board and a new intel processor will cost less than just an am2 board?

i like the sounds of this.

just a thought...
asus have been a good brand for me. and this supports sli (crossfire 4850's if i wanted) and phenom processors.

No, but it'd be a better purchase.

Not to mention, That mobo doesn't say that it supports phenom, so it most likely won't, same for crossfire.

Anyway. This happens a lot with you. You ask for advice. I give you advice. you ignore it entirely. then disappear until you need more advice to ignore. Not gonna waste any more time on you.

1 - crossfire and SLi are not the same thing, it has SLi support and consequently won't do crossfire. So no crossfire 4850's for you with this mobo. And if you were going to, I'd suggest you dig a lot deeper into your pockets than a mid range enthusiast mobo, or it'll fuck up/run like shit anyway.

2 - It will support phenom, but not all. It's am2 not am2+, limits what cpu will fit, most am2 phenoms are a joke compared to the am2+ of the same speed, regardless of whether they have 3 or 4 cores. All phenoms are still a joke compared to the c2d's, but at least they don't suck as hard as they did at launch.

3 - Blindly sticking to a brand or manufacturer out of some form of allegiance hurts no-one but you and your wallet. A fine example would be KV, who's blinkered view of ATi and Nvidia made him rush out and buy a dog shit card that was discontinued a few months later, and isn't even mentioned on most websites/game specs, because it was too embarrassing for ATi.

4 - Asking for advice, fine. Ignoring it, fine. But if you continue to ask for advice then question it, you'll not get much help in future if you keep that up.

whoops....
sorry about that.
i will take your advice and, IF i buy a new mobo it will be an intel one. and yes i make some very silly errors. i am sorry about that too.
the only reason i asked for mobo advice was that my mobo may be broken, i do not have much money and i needed a quick fix, in which case an am2 board would have been better. as it turns out my mobo probably isnt broken and all is fine. again, sorry for wasting valuable time and i will try to not discard your advice as soon as i have read it. sorry.
