If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Chair

Post by spoodie »

My office chair is starting to fall apart and was crap to begin with, so I'm looking for a replacement. Does anyone here have any recommendations or have a special one themselves?

I'm guessing that like me most have a cheap one from Generic Office Supplies Ltd but I'm thinking about a decent one that will last and give me aging bones some good support. Ideally a Herman Miller, but that's the best of the best of the best (most expensive) and can't justify that easily.

I generally just buy this type of thing once a year or so, generally hold me up pretty well (I has a fucked back, fucked shoulders and usually list to port due to booze)

I was going to suggest the Herman Miller Aeron chair as my Dad's office has them everywhere and they're fantastic. As you say, they're hardly cheap, and if you're buying it yourself then near impossible to justify.

bah, I can't find out the make and model of mine. Bloody comfy though, cost about £120.

They had them at my last company, best chair evar. But I was thinking there's got to be something comparable where you're not paying for the brand name on top.

with a bit of poking, they look gettable used, so that might be one option.

Registered, thanks.

But still open to options as these are still hundreds of £s.

I've been through quite a few cheapo chairs that fall apart and when I was looking for a new one I came accross the ones they have at my university:

So I bought one and I'm happy with it. They cost more than I was wanting to spend but they're very comfortable and adjustable, and supposedly very durable aswell. They come with an 8 year guarantee so at least you know it's either going to last or be replaced if it breaks.

While looking for mine, I found that Staples do a pretty good range of exec chairs: http://www.staples.co.uk/ENG/Catalog/ca ... ve+Seating

i got my chair from viking a few years ago and that was about 50 quid, its fairly comfortable and the only signs of wear is the padding where my ass goes is a bit sunk. dont think that my chair is available on there any more but theres still a very good selection and reasonable pricing

Last chair I bought cost about £30 and was bust in about 2 days. Since then nicked my Dad's £80 leather exec chair and its been fine for about 2 years. You get what you pay for.
