I'm currently running around Connall Valley (can't remember the name, the one next to Conarch Village) and have actually found the story behind the missions pretty good. Running lots of little errands and fights for a group of people being attacked by the Vanir. Was dying a bit too much, but then I was level 22 taking on 25/26s and the game was having a full-on spack attack too.

My main character is Maidenhead, a Cimmerian Conqueror I think, and although I’m still torn between two-handed and dual-wielding, I’m enjoying the general ability to tank. At 22 I can take on 2 or 3 25s pretty comfortably, but seem to be able to draw aggro from roughly a millions miles away. I’ve also started an Assassin which I’m just beginning to work through Tortoise now, but I’m interested to see how a stealthy character works in a MMONG. In Oblivion/Morrowind in the past I’ve always tended to go for Stealth/Melee types, but not sure how such a character would work in a game like AoC which currently seems to favour angry smashy types. Not too tempted by magic characters yet, but it’s doubtless something I’ll investigate in the future.

In terms of being a MMONG, I’m still very much playing it as a single player game with a chat room. Not sure how long that will last into the game as I get higher up, but the teaming system doesn’t seem to be nearly as effective or straight-forward as CoX, but that may just be because that’s what I’m used to. I’m pretty much playing this like Dog Pants played CoH, only with <strike>more</strike> levelling. :)

Yeah, I'm getting this. Luckily you don't seem to need to team up in order to progress - even the group quests you can just leave until you're a couple of levels higher.

I'm enjoying my Guardian. I ran out of stuff to do in Wildlands and Stygia, so I took on the Tarantia Noble District. I started off about 6 levels too low, but I could get by on tackling lone enemies missed by higher level players, and by running like fuck between friendly barricades.

The quests there are very good. So far I've had a whodunnit that is by no means solvable by just talking, you have to do a bit of thinking. I've had a nod to Monkey Island in a quest where I had to go and talk to people to collect insults to use on someone, and I've had a quest to collect fresh meat by paoching the deer in the parks, which I completed by getting it from stray dogs instead. It's got me through that flat spot from 35-40, and I've had a lot of fun with it too.

There's a gold farmer quest in there too, which is quite funny.
