Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Post by Mr. Johnson »

Let me start off by saying this; if i was wearing socks at the time (i was wearing sandals) i would've been blown straight out of them. It was that awesome. The fact that i somehow ended up in an exclusive section of the cinema in an african themed-1930's decor (complete with balcony!) helped, but only a little bit.

It contains everything a classic Indiana Jones picture should have. An improbable sidekick, a sexy foreign villain with her team of cliché henchmen (russians this time), shitloads of good, slightly over-the-top stunts and action sequences, and a familiar face and some classic actors trown in the mix as well. The story is about a crystal skull that Indy manages to secure along with his sidekick, and has to return it to a hidden mayan city before the team of russians do. Along the way he meets up with a rambling John Hurt and Karen Allen, who played his love interest in the first film. Jim Broadbent also has a small role as the dean of Indy's univeristy. What follows is an action packed adventure just like the adventure films of the older days, when adventure films where fun to watch and without too many moral lessons and stuff.

PROS:
-two thumbs up for the cast, Harrison Ford is still Indiana Jones and you can tell he loved doing it again, Shia Labeouf was a very decent sidekick and didn't get on my nerves like i expected him to, Cate Blanchett was fantastic as the sexy Russian KGB agent Irina Spalko, and Karen Allen is still the feisty Marion Ravenwood she was in raiders. the supporting cast doesn't really do much other than get in the way...
-It's paced just like an 80's film, wich pleased me greatly, although i can imagine alot of people will not be up for that.
-fantastic stunts with little use of CGI.

CONS:
don't read them if you didn't watch the film already. SERIOUSLY!
Spoiler:
-LOLWHUT ALIENS?1?!!1
-A son? Okay, it didn't really surprise me now that Spielberg has gone a bit soft but still...
-a marriage? how about no?

some of the cons are major cons, but like bobbins said on the disco board i will happily ignore that, since we've been waiting 19 years for this film, and i'm not going to bicker about some trivialities. I mean, it's Indiana Jones for fuck's sake!

I think I need to dig out the originals and watch them again properly - it's been a while since I saw any of them, and I think I only actually saw the third one once. It was on at someone's house the other day, and I half-watched a bit of it - I'd completely forgotten all the scenes at the start with the young Indy and I can't really remember much about the second one at all.

The first 3/4 of the film was awful but entertaining - the way I expected it to be. The end was just fucking awful.

It's just a shame though. It's as if they wrote it as they went along and once they got to the end, couldn't think of a decent finish so they said, (ZOOMJ SPOILERS)
"Fuck it, have aliens come alive, take off with huge asplosions, fuck the gold, say it was knowledge and stick a marriage in there to keep the female tweenage demograph happy."

Well, I wasn't impressed at all. Due to a hicup with the projector at the start we were also offered free tickets to see it again, didn't take them up on that offer as I've no desire to see it again.

Also,
Spoiler:
the son thing
was handled alright I thought, but
Spoiler:
aliens? lol whut? and the marriage was uneeded at the end

Really wasn't as good as the first 3, and I love the first 3.

5/10.

after some thinking i realised;
Spoiler:
the aliens thing was because of the 50ths setting, sci-fi was very popular during that period, as ancient treasure hunting was more popular in the 30's. Indiana Jones has always been based on pulpy novels mixed with actual events from the 30's, and viewing it with that in mind it becomes more enjoyable. Still doesn't justify the ending, but meh.

I just watched this, was expecting shit and that's what I got. It's so horrible I almost switched it off during the jungle driving chase scene, awful. I have more to say, including positive, but I'm too pissed off right now. I'm blaming Lucas at the moment, which is a good default position.

I went to the cinema expecting to see something amazing and what I got was well over an hour of utter, utter, shit. The fact that every time I see an Indy film from now on I'm going to be reminded of this fucking dross makes me a very sad nun indeed :(

I thought it was ridiculously fucking stupid and was thankful I hadn't paid any money to see it. Sure it had a couple OK Indy moments, but everything else about it was lame as shit, from the miraculous fridge to that stupid "city of gold."

More Raiders of the Lost Ark plz.

I liked where the temple blocks moved about, but the rest was a bit poo. The props, like skull and the snake looked really obviously plastic. Also the selective magnetism in the warehouse annoyed me.
