Protip: you can download the updates. If you have a memory stick or a mp3 player you can create a directory so the PS3 will recognise it and install it.
That way you can browse the interbutts whilst downloading the patch and not waste time with the PS3 just on in the background downloading and installing.

That's handy to know, ta. Will it work with a standard USB stick? I don't think my PS3 has a memory card reader, it's one of those lower class ones.TezzRexx wrote:Protip: you can download the updates. i am also considering getting one, but didn't realise there was no backwards compatibility on the 40gb, which is something i want.
a friend mentioned he'd read about an 80gb model with backwards compatibility coming to europe so if it does i might get it
as for GTA4 you're much better off waiting for it on xbox 60, as it will have exclusive downloadable content and everyone seems to say that online games are much better on 360

the one thing i hated about the burnout demo was the need to drive to the start of events, and then if you fail, drive all the way bak to the start again, totally b=put me off buying itFatherJack wrote:I have Burnout Paradise on the 360, and it is rather a laugh. 360 demo had the internet thingy too, which is the main thing that persuaded me to buy it.
I'd forgotten that the PS3 is actaully rather a good Blu-Ray player, and might actually get one now-ish, not least because I just bought a Blu-Ray writer.

Edit: Whilst the following post seems like a fanboy post, I'm actually trying to be fair and impartial. I just think alot of the things people scream on the interbutts are false. The Incredible... wrote:as for GTA4 you're much better off waiting for it on xbox 60, as it will have exclusive downloadable content
But I don't have a hard drive, I'm one of those people that Rockstar mentioned a while back & I'm pretty when they say exclusive they mean you get it two months before they're allowed to release it on the PSTriple.
Think about it. They are nearly NO exclusives for each console anymore. Even games that were exclusive to a console have been released on the PC not long after or on the PS3 a few more months after.
Also, only Microsoft know many people own Xbox 360's WITH harddrives and even then that might only be a estimate. At least every machine bought from Sony has a harddrive.
Like Lost Planet. Infact that's a perfect example. Lost Planet WAS an Xbox exclusive. It also had extra content that had to be purchased for like 400 points each. It's now on the PS3, it was released at the price of £25.99 AND contained all the free and purchasable stuff which was available on the Xbox network, and more! (I sound like an advert lul)
They'd be pretty stupid to accept a sum of money NEVER to release extra content on the PS3. Either that, or it's such a huge amount of money that the PS3 would NEVER be able to make via their network sales etc.
So don't be surprised if the exact same stuff gets released on the PS3 not too long after.

I've not found any differences between Xbox Live and PS3 online. I've played a couple of games on both systems and found no difference. The GUI's are the same, same amount of players on a map per game. etc
The only plus side is in game UI but "apparently" that should be done for the PS3 soon. But that's not part of XBL really, just the XBOX360 UI.
Apart from the fact I'm NOT paying £30 for XBL.
Tl;dr buy a PC
I've played COD on both, for an example. 360 has almost constant banter between and sometimes during games, where the ps3 is like an online ghost town. Although i did hear someone asking if anybody had a mic, but that was met with silence.TezzRexx wrote:

The main problem seems to be the ps3's stance with mics which seems to be "you mean they work online?! Ain't that some shit". As a result, team based games are pretty much every man for himself, making them boring. Its not that i wasn't getting kills, its just that nobody seemed to know what they were meant to be doing, so it felt that i was almost cheating.
The rest of the issues are mainly fanboyesque, the only one that gets me is the fact you have to install games and demo's on the ps3. The hells with that?

Well you don't have to install ALL games, infact the only one that I had to do it with so far is Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and even that wasn't compulsory. However, I tried the game without it and then with it. Loading times went from 11 seconds to 2 seconds.
I think GT5 demands it though. Will find out when it arrives from Play :D
The demos if you think about it have to be installed. You download them, then install them. I think this is because Sony didn't want you to mount the download, almost in the same fashion as downloading an ISO and then using daemon tools to mount, as this could lead to MEGA SUPER PIRACY.
Once you download the demo though, and install it, the demo download is automatically deleted leaving you with just the demo install to play.

I made 2 attempts at getting the update, both of which failed after about 30-60 mins. Gave up. Not that I care too much about this game and I was playing WoW anyway.TezzRexx wrote:Yup, GT5P demands an install. Taking fooking ages too.
On the plus side I now have Ratchet and Clank which is good for the hour I've played so far. I was surprised that it didn't have any kind of tutorial though. It's not hard to pick up as you go but it seems unusual in a modern game, especially one aimed at younger audiences.

would say, $50 million be a lot of money? That's what i heard MS had paid for the exclusivity, i've no idea if that would be more than they could make on the downloadsTezzRexx wrote:

I was looking at this as well, and after what I'd heard about the backward compatibility not being as 'complete' as say the PS2's backward compatibility, I've decided that when I do upgrade, I'll be keeping my PS2, and buying the larger HD PS3. If my PS2 dies, I'll get a replacement to cover my older library, (which is WAY cheaper to buy used games for than a new system, making gaming more affordable). With the price jump for backward compatibility, it's cheaper to buy a PS2 and a PS3 than to buy the backward compatible one.The Incredible... wrote:i am also considering getting one, but didn't realise there was no backwards compatibility on the 40gb, which is something i want.
*****May contain outdated pricing info. It's been a few months since I wuz shoppping for 'em.*****
But my old library is something that I'll not be parting with, so the ability to keep playing them is key.
