Sound Woes [Bitch Help Request]

Hi gang! Not so long ago, I got me one of those spanking Sound Blaster X FI Xtreme Audio jobbies. My problem is thus: All my speakers work fine, all picked up in sequence etc (front left, front centre, front right, rear right, rear left). My sub just doesn't register at all.

I've only noticed recently as I've been on headphones. Now I have googled the problem and tried suggested solutions (such as enabling 3d surround, biasing it towards the rear etc) to no avail. With my previous sound card there was similar trouble, but a redirect thingy check box solved that. No check box this time around though.

Any suggestions?

PS After downloading new drivers, creative setup can't seem to find any products installed on my system to actually update. So the driver version 1.1.1 seems to be the only one that wants to work...

It's actually a PCI-E Sound Blaster X-fi Xtreme Audio card, no updated drivers for this. I bought it when I was hammered...

Good luck, I've become enlightened to how rubbish Creative's drivers are (or, they might be good, but XP SP2 doesn't like them).

2 build configs on my home pc require me to go Control Panel -> Audio HQ -> Speakers, and then just toggle it from 5.1, to something else, then back to 5.1 to get all 5 (and the sub) working at home, sadly that also gives me a bit of reverb.

Not to mention the fact that said "latest" drivers for my audigy makes the windows speaker settings non functional, changing between (even to none) does nothing via windows controls.

Weird. Problem is very much solved now. I initially installed web drivers for the card which gave me much fewer options. Uninstalled the web drivers and installed the whole shebang from the original CD. Lo and behold, a new option 'Creative Console Launcher' appeared. Within this mysterious new option was my Bass redirect check box. This is an outstanding card and it's the most basic I think. It's like I rediscovered music again. Thanks anyway my lovely 5punky family.

In short, if anyone has the same problem

Make sure you install everything from the original CD, launch 'Creative Audio Console, go to speaker settings->Bass->check both 'Enable bass redirection' and and 'subwoofer gain'

Thanks again gents and yeah, creative drivers are WANK.

Pretty much my experience with Creative cards is to install the drivers from the CD and never change them, ever. Also don't lose the CD or accidentally run over it with your chair and break it, because you'll never find another one.

I'll try reinstalling the CD ones then when I'm back home.

I do think the reason why I upgraded was due to the issues I was having with BSoD's and the Creative files being referanced with a Stop error (which MS corresponded my suspicions on the KB).
