Essential Firefox and Thunderbird extensions

Post by Dr. kitteny berk »

Mostly this is just gonna be a list with descriptions of all of my essential extensions, add your own to the thread, and we'll get a damn good list over time :D

Firefox

Adblock
Does exactly what it says on the tin, allows you to block damn near any advert you see. - use this to block most automatically.

BugMeNot
Allows you to easily bypass compulsory registration on news sites and the like.

DownloadWith
Adds an extra option to the "Save As" box, allowing you to download using your favourite download manager (I suggest getright)

FireFTP
Allows you to use Firefox as a reasonably well formed FTP app.

Image Zoom
Allows you to zoom images in/out within Firefox.

~deject's picks~

Tabbrowser Preferences
More advanced configuration of the tabs.

FLST
Focuses on the Last tab that was open.

IE View
FirefoxView
Loads the current page into IE from Firefox or Firefox into IE.

StumbleUpon
Great for random browsing.

Thunderbird

Minimize to Tray
Allows you to minimize Thunderbird to the system tray.

cool cheers
might add a couple of those to mine

with adblock, i strongly reccomend using the http://www.pierceive.com/
filterset. just import the latest txt file. you shouldnt need anything else in there. the smaller the list the better, and that one is nice and efficient and gets any adds ive found

Auto Embedder
Grabs all links to objects such as swf, jpeg, and png and converts links to actual viewable objects embedded in webpage.

This is great for viewing pages such as http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/images/smiles/
You can hit the button in the bottom right corner to turn this process off or on.

Google bar: Does what it says on the tin

And some winamp bar thing that sits at the bottom of the browser, can't remember what it's called but I quite like it.

I already did! If you can't find where to add people, post your username and I'll find you.

Is there a extension or something for firefox so music and video files launch in windows media player and start streaming like with IE instead of downloading it first then playing?

I can't operate a browser without these any more. I even do them with my hands when other people are browsing like some spastic conductor.
