ABout to buy this laptop

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Cos I'm fucking lazy and cba to shop around
, I'm just going to go for this mid range Dell

Anyone see any glaring issues? I'm not doing the Blu Ray thing yet, still too new and expensive.

Bah. Dell website is weird. It's the XPS M1530 anyway, with maxed out bits but no Blu faaabulous. Comes in under a shade under £1k all in.

Updated the URL anyway, if that helps.

Isn't that the one I just bought? The invoice says XPS M1530 anyway, although the only extra I got was the graphics card.

I'm pretty pleased with mine so far. I've not tried gaming on it yet, but it feels well put together and doesn't come with loads of crap on it (unless you count Fista). Has gucci little extras like the remote control I mentioned on the disco board and a little filofax thing to keep all your system disks and manuals in. I know all the little bits like that don't make the actual machine any better, but attention to detail always makes me believe it's a good product, which it certainly seems to be. Don't get the Dell XPS bag though - it's £80, whereas a decent backpack-style bag like the one I got was only £30. You're paying for the name (which also says 'please nick me').

If you'd like I'll have a crack at running Oblivion on it and let you know how it fares.

If you've got the monies might as well buy it, the price isn't too bad and the memory upgrade they offer is included in the price or taken off for £30 as far as I can tell, that's the only thing they fuck you over on, mem upgrades, and since your buying a fairly high spec lappy they've given you lots of the stuff anyway.

Just ordered it. I think the only changes I made were 4GB RAM, the slightly better CPU and an extra 9 Cell Battery for when I'm travelling.

That GPU looks about right for that resolution of screen, and should do you fine with most games as long as you don't set it on the very highest.
