Dissapointment?
Having reached my download limit for this month (/sigh 7GB on a 3 wireless dongle) I sat down in front of CoD4 to finish the single player game. Which I managed without too many kicks being aimed at my machine. But I was slightly dissapointed with the game, the ending just felt unfinished somehow, and it really was not that long a game and certainly not one I would play through again. I understand the multiplayer has more life in it but I am currently waiting for British Theiving Telecom to install a phone line so will not be able to try that out until it is ready.
Has anyone else completed the single player? did you think that the ending and length were a dissapointment? at the moment I am fairly reluctant to buy any other CoD future release based on this game.

I actually loved the SP, the ending (as bubbles so eloquently put it, was a massive cockslap) and some parts like the bad guys constantly spawning on one or 2 maps was crap.
But, I did really, really enjoy the majority of the single player game, It felt new, shiny and while short, It seemed to me like it was the right length (twss) any longer and it'd've started to drag and be comprised of too much filler
By no means perfect, but a good way to kill 3-4 hours.
As far as the package as a whole goes, I felt it was a decent deal, the SP is a great compliment to the main attraction, which in itself (IMO) is bloody great.

I liked some of it - the C130 mission and the sneaky bit, and the post-nuke level, but it was the spawning bad guys that really put me off. The protect the tank mission nearly put me off, as did the TV station one. And one of the Russian ones, but it was the escape from Prepyat one that finally did it. Too many missions where I was thinking "Can it not just be over now please".

I too thought it was great, and the respawning enemies, although annoying, horses you to play properly and not just wait until you'd killed everything to move forward like in every other game.Gunslinger42 wrote:I thoroughly enjoyed the single player. I don't really have anything negative to say about the ending, but it could have been better I guess.
The mission on the plane after it was a nice quick little piece of win though.
Win all round I say.
I thought it was excellent, for what it was. Plenty of variation and quite a lot of atmosphere generated by the non-shooting bits and other breaks from the norm.
I didn't have any problems with the re-spawning enemies, evidently I wasn't doing it wrong. The point was to push through, which I didn't realise right away but got the hint after a few mins.

My only serious complaint about that game was the respawning, it made a realistic war game really unrealistic.
I don't mind some reinforcements running onto the field of battle from a direction you're fighting in, but not actually randomly appearing behind you in a secured area that you've just gone through.
The ending wasn't too bad, you at least got to do the objective the SAS set out to do.

I knew beforehand that this game shipped with the SP kinda tacked on to the MP experience and didn't expect much from the SP campaign. I was pleasantly surprised at how involved I got with my five hours of first run through.
The spectre mission was too much win, the sneaky sniper one was full of anachronisms (silenced p90's?!?) but was still also win, the rap endy bit was shit, the secret plane assault was win and the bit playing the skin melted irradiated smells like baconz dying yank fella was a bloody good bit of game writing. Wasn't any typical 'hoo-rah we'll kill you all because we're merkin' there, which always pisses me off with yanks in fighting games.
I guess I expected a lot less from SP than most of you and was rewarded rather than disappointed as a result.
