After actually reading the article, the no Mass Effect on PC thing is more bit-tech assuming and reading into things than any real direct quotes. Plus, EA controls Bioware and Mass Effect, not Microsoft. I'm guessing they'll keep the same arrangement they've had so far, Xbox first, then after a while release it for PC.

So basically the bit-tech article is just Microsoft FUD.

Here's my view on this -
It pretty much is already. It has a tri-core IBM xenon cpu and an ATi gpu with 512 of ram, basically a 1950 XT with a few mods to make it a tad faster.
Although the 360 offers affordable high quality graphics and the next one (whatever it's name may be) will get even closer in terms of quality, the companies methods of manufacture are the same as any large scale enterprise, by the time they've selected a manufacturer and the chip is made, it's old news for pc gamers.
The ps3 can be had with a linux install on it, but it's then a crap console with a mediocre pc OS on it.
The pricing was one of the problems with the ps3, many people can't afford a high quality pc for the best games, so they get a console. They can play a good looking version of the same game on a console and it'll work.
The ps3's blurring of boundaries meant the price was higher, closer to mid/high range gaming pc's and this lead to consolers getting annoyed at the high price, and pc gamers ignoring it in favour of the high quality low priced parts they can get for their pc.
I think the pace of pc parts will always progress faster than consoles, until such time as we hit the wall of current technological understanding - we can only refine silicon so far. Until that point (which may never even occur) consoles and pc's will be separate entities and I think that's a good thing.
/early morning ramble.

This. I do believe you fiddy bux is a yearly thing, and therefore rather moar worth it thn you had previously thought.
Also deej - the gpu in a 360 isn't as good as a 2900, if that series of words can be used in a sentence. Hence why I put 1950xt but a tad faster, it isn't one nor t'other.
Either way, my not quite 2900 360 gpu is far superior to KV's most definitely 2900 pc gpu which is utterly fail. Doubly so when my 360 cost about the same as KV paid for his 2900.

Pete shut the fuck up it's by far closer to a 2900 than a 1950. You're wrong, accept it.HereComesPete wrote: This. I do believe you fiddy bux is a yearly thing, and therefore rather moar worth it thn you had previously thought.

I, too, will probably be micro budgeted into buying a console before I'll be able to buy a new laptop. Tis quite sad, but console gaming is more of a family pass-time than playing on the laptop. Also, cheaper, as was pointed out before. Are there any PS3 owners here that have the backward compatible system? My father-in-law has the non compatible one, that he justified buying as a Blu-ray player, not knowing the difference and wanting to save $100. I'm curious about the quality of older PS1 and PS2 titles on it, as I'm not about to let my old favorites go. If they don't play well on it, I'll buy a backup PS2 when they become scarce, and wait for the PS4 to shove the price on PS3's down. Price of used games is a great reason to stay one system behind the 'current' system. But waiting a year to play the new hot games (even with a huge price break) is a bit trying.
All in all though, I've not paid full price for a console game in 4 years. Which allows me to buy more of them, and I don't get bitten buy spending $40 on a game that ends up sucking!
edit: Also, tis looking more and moar like the Blu-ray is going to win the format war, so HD-DVD drives in the sexbox will be useless besides the games they play.
