keyboard advice

ok, FJ made the comment that I should by myself Bubble a quieter keyboard, mostly so I stop moaning about waking her up so much, I suppose

I currently have a G11, which I bought partly because I had been told that it is quiet. Well, it is quieter than my original no-name standard, for sure, but not enough for the sensitive ears of my better and sleepier half. I've never used the macro functions on it

So, what keyboard would you recommend? Requirements, in order of preference, are;

Silent in use. the ability to actively cancel noise would me super-precious
backlit keys
OMGWTF cool looking

For example, the new apple keyboard would suit nicely, if only it played nice with XP...

Ideas?

Oh and FJ; I did make the ear-plug recommendation. The response is best not printed, but suffice to say blood was spilled

That's what I use. It's not silent but it's fairly quiet. You can make it quieter by pressing lightly on the keys I suppose. I don't think I've ever come across a silent keyboard.

I use a logitech ultra x that's fairly quiet.

maybe a logitech dinovo, ISTR they have a layer of rubber under the keys.

The only other thing I'd suggest would be perhaps look at those roll up keyboards, no mechanical bits so they'll be really quiet, but it'll depend on your desk as you may end up with a dull thump once the power of your press is transferred to the desk.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll look at those. I don't think I need go quite as far as a rollup one though ... at least I hope not

There's always those laser ones that project virtual keys onto the desk surface. Not cheap and I don't know how well they work.

I was only trying to solve your problem with surreptitious gaming, rather than saying you moaned about it a lot. Maybe some noise-cancelling headphones that play sounds of dolphins or something, though I suspect the keyboard noise might be a bit of scapegoat, being the first thing she hears when trying to sleep - it would be the PC fan or a creaky chair if the keyboard were silenced. I have been accused of breathing too loudly in similar circumstances.

There's no such thing as a silent keyboard really. You need a direct neural link.
