If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

maybe an ati 2600 or a nvidia 7600?

both will be kinda crap, and depends on PSU and stuff.

check reviews etc.

:above: it will be crap, unless you can somehow find an AGP Radeon 3850 for that cheap. I'm not even sure those are on sale yet though.

also, what is the card likely to be used for?

an old card, like an ati 9700 or GF6600 might be a good bet for low end gaming on a budget.

or, if it's not gonna be used for much more than youtube and popcap games, something like ati 9500 might be worth a shot.

Erm, mostly source games really like CSS, TEEF, etc.

Not expecting it to handle new games, just a few older titles.

Ati 9700 Pro will run CS:S, and therefore probably Teef.

Fix'd.

Honestly, for £50 for a graphics card, I'd be inclined to hit ebay for something like a 6800 ultra or a 7800GS

It won't be perfect, and there are the usual ebay risks but you'll get something capable of running most stuff.

CS:S is a 2004 game, and runs fine on a 6600 with 128M, TF2 was released in October 2007 and has correspondingly higher requirements - in the £50-new range a 7300/7600 might not cut it.

I have an NVidia GeForce 6800 XT AGP.

I'm not sure what it'll cost, but i'm always tight when it comes to GFX cards to it wouldn't be much.

It plays all the Source games, COD 4, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, BioShock.

It is coming to the end of it's life, sure, but it sounds just like the sort of thing you need.
