Recomended games to play

Post by Stuk »

There are a lot of great games out there that deserve our attention, but choosing the right one can be a minefield (oh the cheesiness). So because everyone here plays games, I thought we could help each other out, and recomend good games. So if people would like to shout about games they've enjoyed, I'll add them to this list:

First/3rd Person Shooters
  • Half Life 2
  • Call of Duty and United Offensive
  • Max Payne 1 (definately) and 2 (maybe)
  • No One Lives Forever 1 and 2
  • The Grand Theft Auto Series
  • Far Cry
  • The Punnisher
  • Rainbow 6 series
  • Freedom Fighters
Role Playing Games/Adventure
  • The Grand Theft Auto Series
  • Deus Ex (and Deus Ex Invisible War)
  • Plainscape Torment
Real Time Strategy/Managment
  • Dune 2
  • Total Annihilation
  • Diablo / Diablo II
  • Starcraft
Online Games
  • World of Warcraft
  • Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 (unless you don't have a DX9 card...grrr)
  • EVE online
  • Guild Wars
  • Counter Strike Source
  • UT2004
  • Planetside
Other Games
  • Darwinia
  • Freedom horse
  • Tiger Woods Golf 2005
Personally I'm looking for a good FPS to play during the summer, but I'll see what comes up.

I personally found Max Payne 2 and Deus Ex Invisible War to be steaming piles of dog poo.

Mmm, I didn't know whether to put them in the first group or this one, but San Andreas is definatley RPGish

San Andreas is totally a shooter man. Stats do not make an RPG...

FPS: Rainbow 6 series... been playing since the first one and still play raven shield (online)

DX: Invisible War is wank compared to the first one... play neither online though.

other than that it's CS:S

:above: this! they both have bizzare quirks though...

also, if you're looking for a quick single player jaunt, pick up a copy of Freedom Fighters. It has some good squad based action and you can get it dirt cheap.

oooh, that reminds me: Freedom horse!
Its my honest belief that everyone in the world should play both the freedom horse games. They are brilliant squad based tactical superhero silliness.

For Freedom!

I'm FPS through and through, but:

Starcraft
Total Annihilation
Diablo / Diablo II

In fact, see my entry in the 'Top ten games' thread for my recommendations.

I played it (or maybe it was 2004, I forget) on t3h Playstashun 2 and it's pretty fun. I like the swing mechanic with the analog stick. I'd hate to do it with a mouse though.

I don't think it makes a difference, 2004 and 2005 are very similar, the game mechanic is identical.

I found it quite easy and fluid with the mouse.
