How to keep your machine virus/trojan/spyware/malware free.

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

I'm supprosed no one has mentioned Spybot S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html). A free spyware cleaner that I run as well as anything else. Very good in my opinion, and it even tells you about each of the problems it finds.

Oh and although CCleaner was really good, it deleated my N (http://www.harveycartel.org/metanet/n.html) savegames, and I lost my pink ninja :(

A good list, thanks WEY

Okay guys, if you haven't already done so, I strongly suggest everyone downloads the latest version of Crap Cleaner from the link below, as you can now add cookies you wish to keep into a safe list :boogie:

Hurrah! I've always thought it would make sense to be able to keep certain cookies. I hate having to google my b3ta login.

What is HTTP proxy server?
HTTP proxy server is a proxy allowing to work on the Internet with HTTP and (not always) FTP protocols. It can carry out caching of information downloaded from the Internet. Now HTTP proxy servers are the most widespread. Their support (ability to use them) is included into many programs: browsers, download managers etc. However, their support is not realized at a level of an operating system ? in order to use them, you should configure all programs, which should use proxies, in an appropriate way. HTTP proxy servers have several anonymity levels.

*snip*
Given that this appears to be a copy and paste from some other site and a link to a commercial site from a new user, i've removed the direct link.

also, it was badly set out and offers people no real information as to why they might want to use a proxy, and the risks involved.

Hmm, since my Norton (which I even payed for) decided it's only a trial version, and that I need to buy it again, I think I'll try some of the anti virus programs suggested in this topic

:above: this OR paying them more wads of cash. Honestly though, the free AV products work well enough as long as you're keeping care and being careful what you do with your PC.

Of course, most of you mongs can't be bothered so I guess you might be better off paying, if only to keep you from buying things that can kill you.
