Fist and older routers

My Dad's just bought himself a shiny new Dell XPS 720 complete with Fista. Problem is it won't find tinternet through our existing router (DrayTek Vigor 2600). All other machines on the LAN run XP and connect fine and his machine is on the LAN as well (IP is in range, subnet and DNS are AOK). I turned off all software firewalls on fista but still no joy.

I have the machine connection to internets via ICS through my duel ethernet adaptors on my machine, so can download/scan/do funky internet shit no probs. It's just got me flummoxed. Any ideas?

1) can you ping any of the other PCs connected to the router?
2) do a tracert 217.112.95.67 and tell us the results

That does sound rather odd.

Is the new machine getting it's IP from the router? If not check the 'gateway' property is set to the IP of the router.

Yes, all of them. And they show in the Fista networks window

Hmm, oddness.

Have you tried updating the router's firmware? they may have released a more Fista happy version.

Yes, machine pings everyone on the network and the router quite happily. DNS is all correct and there are no firewalls active. Something in the router isn't letting Fista see the internet which is just odd.

The ICS thing is just a temporary work around, basically piggy backing the fista machine onto my comp's connection so I can at least update drivers and stuff.

Next step is to do what Berk said, though I have a sneaky feeling the router that old there are no firmware upgrades....which'll mean new router time

I'm assuming you mean it pings fine when plugged into the router, rather than over ICS?

Does it ping IPs or domains externally? (try 217.112.95.67 and www.google.com) also, try visiting http://217.112.95.67/tcadmin

That'll help tell if it's not getting at the internets at all, or just failing at DNS or something.

No, it doesn't ping anything externally, just LAN...hence no internets.

Oh, and now the router doesn't want to upgrade it's firmware. Cock it, I'm going to show the thing the glories of the outside world by way of a big fuckoff plastic bin and get a new one.

Right. Tried 'nothing else plugged in' and Fista found Google. So it's router settings in that case I assume. But now my own XP machine couldn't see the internet when I plugged back in - different IP's, no conflicts to be seen. Not being an expert on routers I clicked the button that seemed most appropriate in setting - PPPoE pass through for Wired Lan and everything started to work. Why I have to make this change now when it all worked before is beyond me.

Oh, and the machines can no longer see each other on the network but at least they can all connect to the internet now.

It was working like a dream for a few minutes. Now Fista has decided the internet doesn't exist anymore. FUck you Fista, and the horse you rode in on.
