Digital camera?
A tiny bit off topic I know, but its the girlfriends birthday soon and Im thinking of getting her a digital camera.
Doesnt have to be anything to fancy, but obviously looking for the best I can get for the price. Since I have no idea at all about them, thought I might pick your lovely spicey brains.
Budget is probably around £100-150.
Fankoooo

My current inclination is to shy away from any company that uses tricks to make it seem like the camera is more capable than it really is. So avoid Fuji (although, they've been working on fixing the compression issues, but still avoid them for the time being).Dr. kitteny berk wrote:look at fuji or cannon ixuses (ixii? ixum?)
Canon's smaller cameras are very nice (Ixus and PowerShot), if a little more expensive than the rest. Nikon make a trusty range of compacts under the CoolPix brand. Casio's Exilim range has been making serious amounts of fuss in the compact camera market and are highly desirable.
Really, the best advice I can give is to go to Dixons, perv at the shelves and then buy online.
I've got a Canon Powershot at work and I find it a complete bastard to get any images off the cocking thing from the on-board memory. I personally use a Konica Minolta Dimage Z10, which has an 8X optical zoom and cost me about £150 from Amazon. It's a bit big for a digital camera, but it was the best I could find after a lot of research for about the price you're looking for. It's done me proud in the 6 months or so I've had it.

One of my reasons for not being so tempted by the Canon EOS 350D was that it apparently doesn't support USB Disk mode and requires Canon's software to suck images off it if you don't use a memory card reader.
I don't know for sure if that applies down the line to the consumer kit.
EDIT:
Specs wise, the Kodak is the best on paper, but it's an ugly brute. I'm tempted to run with the Casio on the form factor and price. And considering the typical of these cameras, as long as it'll take good enough point-and-shoot pictures and you're happy with how it works, then that's what really matters.

I'd say the Exilim, they're obscenely small, which is a good thing.

On a side note, my brother in law is a pro photogropher, and according to him, the 350D is a very nice, cheap(er) end camera.
I wouldnt know, as the only digital cameras ive ever used is the one in my mobile phone and my brother in laws 10D (which is very, very nice.)
