Anti virus renewal time - kaspersky any good?

Virus Bulletin is good, make up you own mind.

All I know is that with probably a couple of thousand installs over the last few years, NOD32 has caused zero problems and only 1 virus that we know of get past it's defenses (which I believe was really due to an unpatched Internet Explorer)
Compare to that, we've had so many machines with problems due to Norton that it's just funny now.

I appreciate that Fear is trying to legitimately trying to save a few quid however, so it's fair enough to look further afield. I shall also have to have a look at Simiantech. (Why does it sound like Symantec though? Urgh!)

Because that's what I call symantec, (the h was an alcohol typo) given norton etc was clearly coded by monkeys.

Edit: really though, IME/O norton is completely shit, symantec corp is very good, light, fast, doesn't seem to let shit in and just sits out of the way

I've never had a problem with Norton (or Symantec) capture rates. I've always avoided Symantec due to it's association with Norton.

That, and the way that what is now Symantec Corporate Edition used to be Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition; it seems like they just switched the brands around, or there was some M&A jiggery-pokery (that's a technical term).

i forgot about this, natwest are offering a free 1-year subscription to McAfee Virus-scan Plus (Firewall, Antivirus and Anti-Spyware) without you having to do anything. I've tried it out and it does work and is all legitimate.

If you're strapped for cash then this could be a temporary measure

nope, no bank account is needed. I dont have an account with them and I managed to download it, install it and update it.

/edit: you may have to register with McAfee but this only requires name, email and password

I'm very happy with NOD32. It's unintrusive, doesn't cause CoH or TR much strain when it scans (which I scheduled but sometimes forget about), updates itself several times a day, and most importantly I've had no nastyware. I think it was £50 for three years, which ain't half bad either.

No promo codes or anything. Did you trial the AV or the whole security suite?
(personally I've found that the AV treats malware/spyware the same as everything else and I'm guessing that they've just gone down the whole "we do spam, spyware and viruses" road just because people are dumb enough to think others give more protection)
