If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

Right, the XP SP3RC is available now, it's not final, YMMV etc. etc.
But still, it's 336MB and can be had from
Here .
Obviously, if you do decide to play with this, make backups first, system restore point wouldn't be a bad idea.

Don't do it! This is a ms worm to fuck you over and make you get fista! Fight the man and his machine by using XP! Oh, wait... bugger.
In all honesty, I can't see anything wrong with XP, it's taken a VERY long time for that to happen, so why the sp3? Does it have shinies? Will it groom my imaginary miniature horse?

What are the "small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers’ experience with the operating system"?

Adds some new networking stuff to make everything work a bit happier, along with other odds and sods.

Hmm, the ms technet forums don't seem to like it much. I'll stick with sp2 methinks.

2 friends got it, 2 friends had to reinstall XP because of it. 0 out of 2 friends recommend getting *shivers* SP3.

Chances are you're running SP2.9 anyway if you've got Windows Update on.
I'm on Fista RC SP1 at the moment. It's broken a few things and fixed a few others. I'm undecided as yet.

You just download a thing that sets a registry key, then Windows Update does its stuff.
For me it fixed sleep but broke hibernation

This. When sp2 was first out it caused a few* problems, but it's all good now.
*may be understatement.
