Thanks for last night's Steamy Bukkake action, darlings

Post by bomberesque »

Sorry I wasn't on TS, I tried to load it up between levels, but my PC froze up on me so I bailed and went to bed.

I thoroughly enjoyed that, although getting caught by Roman's spy at least 4 times in the same damn spot reminded me how shit I am at this.

on a system note, my PC takes about 3-5 minutes to connect to Bukkake (or any other server for that matter) is that normal? I know I have performance issues with my PC, but I would have thought that connection time to a server wouldn't be one of them particularly. Also, I sometimes get hangups where there's huge amounts of HDD activity, so perhaps this is the problem (I only have 1/2G of ram and a legacy problem with getting more)

anyhow, advice on improving connection performance would be appreciated, other than that, see you next week, that was fun :ahoy:

Teef is quite big and slow, can take a while to connect sometimes, even in fast machines.

ah, so I need to develop som patience then. Bugger.

Performance while running seems OK, which is the big issue, I suppose. It doesn't help that I'm on a drive to reduce weekday drinking...

Problem will mostly be paging due to the lack of memory.

if you have a second hdd, you might improve things a little by setting your paging file to that (so it's not on the same drive as windows/teef)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307886

however, it'll only improve stuff a little, you'll still be limited by HDDs, just less so

Of course then you might get the problem I have, which is to get a decent PC and find out that you're not doing well because you're shit.

 definitely that. I've no problem with getting killed, only I'd sooner not wait for 5 minutes looking at a blank screen and an always-on HDD LED waiting to get killed. :faint:

NY is new PC tiem Go hopefully, Sherrif's posted rig looks to be about in my price range, but I need to square something away before I can spend lots of monies.

Also, you might not want to minimize TEEF. You need a home nuclear power plant to be able to maximize it again within reasonable (<=4 weeks) time.

Ah, that was definitely my experience. Anyone any decent answer as to *why*?

Afterall, I don't have the same problem with the HL series, or even COD (which generally fails at running on my PC anyway)

so get TS running before firing up Teef. Check
open bottle of wine and drink half of it put the kettle on while Teef connects to Bukkakke. Check
Wait to make sure that the plume of smoke rising from Sherrif's house is his open fire and not his PC. Check

I've always assumed being able to minimise a game is a privilege, not a right. The most power you have the more chance of the game not crashing but I always worry when I attempt it, especially if the game is running rather then at the menu. In my experience.

Some games take the momentary interruption of their running as a massive slap in the face and sulk over it, some are fine, I guess it just depends on codez and stuff. Beef has always been fine for me, but future beef likes to spack when minisized, Oblivion broke when minimizing, COD4 doesn't even notice.

I generally try once or twice, and make a mental note of whether it's a good idea or not and very rarely try again, having two screens helps the need to not minimize, as stuff can be put on t'other one that may be useful in a game, lists of ip's, ts, xfire etc etc.

Some games like to change whether they'll behave or not, these games are children.

Has anyone tried disabling HDR and alt-tabbing in TEEF? I seem to remember CS:S hating alt tab with HDR enabled.

I actually felt bad about stabbing you so often

Tip though: you can run through people on your own team - if they can't run through you then it's a spy.

Look for characters doing weird shit, like running directly at you or not changing weapon, a disguised spy will always carry the default weapon. Those people i deem as "doing weird shit" get a mild fisting/axing/bat rape to determine whether or not they enjoy such activities.

Excellent idea, would explain everything as CS:S maximizes just fine, most CS:S maps don't even have HDR on.

Connect, or load the map?

The long(ish) bit for me is loading the map. At this time you're waiting on your disks, and to some degree your CPU as it's decompressing textures.

Faster disks help, SATA>IDE, but dual/quad core processors won't* - as TeeF seems to only use a single core.

Clear a bit of space and use the defrag option in Steam for a moderate improvement, more RAMs will make your disk less used by Windowsy stuff giving a general performance gain.

*Unless you frig other running apps to run on specific cores.
