If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

i could do with a microphone for my pc, a decent headset with headphones would be nice. i dont have the first idea of what im looking for mind you, so what would you guys recomend? im not looking for the top of the line, just so long as its barable quality on the mic and speakers on their i'll be happy. also what about the best place to buy one from? the only microphone ive ever bought was £2 brand new off ebay, lasted about a week

Ive just purchased some £15 jobs from Game. Headphones are ok, if a little crappy looking/feeling. Dunno what the mic's like yet though.

i mostly found that with cheaper headphones, they usually sounded a bit crappy with little range.

should be fine for gaming, but my trick to CS (and most games) is being able to hear exactly where the fuckers are.

I currently have a air of these:

for only $30 bucks they rule. still, I really only use them because they have the built in mic. I'd much rather use my Shure in-ear buds, because there are times when that extra clarity can make a huge difference.
